Pain killer drug testing gone wrong

A new drug being tested by the biotrial international causes one person to become brain dead, and leads five others to be hospitalized.Four of the patients hospitalized may have permanent neurological damage. The drug being tested was meant to help people with motor skill issues and anxiety disorders and had already been given to one hundred twenty eight volunteers. Bai pharmaceutical said "the drug has been administered to one hundred eight people with any moderate or serious adverse reactions."After learning of Patients Reactions to the drug, the French health ministry sent agents to examine the facility to make sure all rules had been followed in the facility were patients were given the drug.

My opinion

They Probably should of done further research on what effects the drug would of had on the brain before giving it to so many people, even though this is a clinical trial run for the drug to see how it effects people. Its a pretty serious side effect to cause someone to go brain dead or cause neurological damage.I definitely wouldn't risk taking this drug no matter what it could help with.

Questions

Do you think this was a rare accident or do you think steps could of been taken to prevent these side effects.?

Would you trust trust biotrial international to give clinical trials for this or any drug again?

  • Again, all your comments were done on the same day.

  • It clearly was an accident, but they should have done more testing on it before giving it out to people. It would be hard to trust biotrial international after this mistake, but maybe they'll learn to be more careful next time.

  • I think that the people testing this pain killer should have done a lot more tests before even thinking about giving this out to people. I think this is a pretty rare accident because I think if this happened a lot more people would know or at least here about it. I don't think I would give this company my full trust back in this company again because this is a very big deal.

  • I think the should have done more tests in general before they sent it out to do their human testings. I haven't heard of any other instances of issues occurring like this, but not everything is publicized. I think the drug will be put on standby until they can fix the problem. It may be awhile before it is released again but it will show up.

  • They should have tested it on only a few people so that they would know the effects of this drug.  I would not want to test drugs because I wouldn't know the effects it could have on my body.  I don't want to end up with brain damage only for a test.

    • I agree That they should of tested it on fewer people

  • I would have tested on a small group of people after being sure that the drug is stable. After about a week with no negative side effects another group could be tested. I wouldn't be a test patient for a drug in the first place.

    • Ya the people that test it may of been looking for the drug that works for there condition

  • If I knew that so many people were going to be tested, I would have tested a few people at a time like start out with 5 then 10 then 20 and so on. A person should be able to trust the biotrial  international, obviously they should have been more careful. The only way I would be able to trust them is if it was checked by multiple pharmacies.

    • Ya I think they were trying to get a variety of people tested but they still should of started off smaller amount of people to be safe
