On the edge of Strahan, Australia there were about 380 whale carcasses found there were about 50 whales saved that day and about 20 the next day from Tasmania state shallows.  They started with the rescue operation and also started with disposing of the carcasses that very week. Some of the whales that they saved ended up beaching again. They only knew this because they marked the ones they rescued the first time. They feel the reason they are beaching is that they are either sick or they are accidentally going the wrong way. They have had three whale beaching accidents one in 1935 with 294 whales another in 1996 with 320 and the largest one in 2020 with 380 whales. Over 470 whales were rescued throughout the week.

What would you do if you saw that many whales beached that day?

What do you think happened and why?

  • Kiara,

Your topic is fine but you just summarized the story. I am looking for more of your thoughts and opinions in your summary. You also didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 30 points.

  • personaly I did not know that this happened. Second off I am suprised that there would be that many whales I would probably tell sombody and they would not belive me thill the saw it on the news. I personaly think that it was becasue they were sick with somthing called blue tongue disease were it makes the animal suicidal.

  • Personally I would run for help and call some wildlife officials just to show them what happened. And then I would try to do something about it. I think it happened because there could have been a whale graveyard for whales nearby and maybe a storm moved them around and made them go ashore.

  • I would probably help out with the rescue because this is a serious problem. With so many beached whales, they could go extinct. I think that they may be sick because this problem could affect the population to the point the whales will die off.

  • If I had seen that many whales, I would've tried to help any that may have still been alive.  I don't know for sure why this happened either.  I think that it could be because of some change in climate that confused the whales in their normal behavior.

  • I would call for help immediately if I saw that many beached whales. It is so sad that these animals are suffering in such large groups, or just in general. It's really unfortunate. I could see how this is happening because they go the wrong directions accidentitally.

  • If I saw that many whales washed up on the beach, I would be in shock and also worry for the whales. Whales are a very cool animal and if I were to see so many just laying on the beach I would try to help as much as I can and call people that could help. It is pretty strange that the whales keep ending up on the beach, but there could be many reasons for it.

  • That would be a sad sight to seen when you go to a beach. All those whales just laying in the sun. Whales are super cool and it's sad that they do this. There are also many other animals that do this as well. Many do it because that's just what they do. Some female jellyfish species do this after they give birth, which I do not understand. Maybe they are sick or they got mixed up in what direction they were going.

  • If I would be able to see that many whales I would be really impressed and also call for animal actorities to go and help them. i think they were there because they could find any other free and safe place to be so they gathered all up in the same place.

  • If I saw those whales washed up on the beach then I would do anything I could to save them. There is always something you can do to help save animals. I think the whales are sick, but with weather changes they could also be confused with where they are. There has to be some explanation as to why they keep beeaching, but it is very strange.
