Yesterday (10/24/15) at 10:31am during the OSU homecoming parade a drunk woman drove into the parade at high speeds. She first hit a police officers motorcycle, then the car went straight into the crowd. Three people were killed and 34 four others injured while 8 of the 34 were in critical condition. The university president talk about the the tragedy after, saying "We are shocked and heartbroken by this horrible tragedy," also saying"The Oklahoma State University Homecoming parade is the most wholesome of events and to have it marred in such a way is incomprehensible.". With the tragedy occurring just a few hours before the OSU vs Kansas football game the university decided they would still play. A moment of silence was held right before the game started and the flags at half staff. OSU won 58-10.
If you were in the crowd and saw the car coming at you would just run to get out of the way or would you try getting others out of the way with the time you had? how would you handle the situation?
If you were the president of the university would you have decided to continue the football game or postpone it?

Good job!
I don't think there would be enough time to go anywhere, but I would try to get out of the way. Just to be honest, I don't think I would be worried about others safety, I would be more concerned about me and if I am going to be OK. In order to help others, you have to be OK. I think that it was a good idea to continue with the football game because then you aren't thinking so much about what just happened and how terrible it was. You can focus on winning the game and normal life.
I would yell and try to get as many people out of the way as possible. I would have decided to have the football game to get people's minds off of it for the time being.
You wouldn't do much trying to get other people out of the way. All you can really do is try and get out of the way along with the others trying to escape the chaos.
If I had enough time then yes of corse I would get out of the way and try and help others but my family is alway with me so I would get my family out of the way first before myself and others.
I would probably not haddle this sittuation that well because this is one of my worst fears so im not that sure what I would do.
It is very hard to realize that one woman's actions had such an impact on so many lives. In a split second thirty seven lives were forever altered as were the lives intertwined with theirs. I would try to get others out of the way. It would have had to have been a split second decision, but I would do my best to protect others. You should always try to remain calm and collected during situations like these. I would do my best to alleviate stress and help the situation. I would postpone the football game. The flags were flown at half staff and there was a moment of silence, but it almost seemed senseless as if it never happened. I would have waited a couple days to mourn those who were lost and those who are injured.
Ya I think If I were there I would probably do the same. I would try to help others but because you would only have a split second, I think I would yell to let everyone know and them as I started getting out of the way I would start moving the crowd also. The game I don't think If it was me I could postpone it just because it would mess up the scheduled that many people have made to come to the game.
It is unbelievable to me how impaired and damaged people can get from consuming too much alcohol, for all of this tragedy is the result of one woman deciding to drive under the influence. If I was in this situation, I'd try to help the injured the best I could until the arrival of 911 and then I'd step aside so that the victims could be helped. If I was the president of the university, I would postpone the game out of respect. I know that they had a moment of silence before the game, but I don't think that was enough because immediately afterwards the game resumed like nothing had happened. I just think they should have rescheduled it to a later date when things weren't so tragic and sorrowful.
Ya this is a great example of why you shouldn't drive under the influence. You killed and injured many people and now your life is over also just because you made one dumb decision. I don't know if I could postpone the game but I do see what you mean when you say you would postpone the game.
I think that some people get way too out of hand after drinking. People need to make sure that they are smart about it and not just taking advantage of alcohol. Things like this happen when they over do it. There should be some kind of rules involving drinking and the parade. Especially if you are driving in the parade, they should not be drinking regardless.
