Only In Siberia

British runners have taken to a frozen lake in Siberia, FOR A MARATHON! There are sub-zero conditions all across frozen Siberia. They were among less than 150 competitors in the marathon across the ice of the planet's largest and deepest fresh water lake. The marathon held during the Siberian winter, the Lake Baikal Ice Marathon is like no other marathon on Earth. They run between shores of the vast lake on thin ice only 80cm thick. To enter the entrant must make an offering to the lake, this is of course mandatory(only in Siberia). The marathon starts at 9 AM when the temp. is -12C but attract a field of international runners, many of whom live for EXTREME SPORTS. The best possible finish is 50% slower than the average marathon because of the brutal tread surface.

These people must really beleive in YOLO, I mean seriously, you are going to run on thin ice with about 150 other participants, use your common sense.

  • This sounds like quite the scenic type of a marathon. I wouldn't mind doing it if it possible for me to make it.

  • These people are crazy and this is very dangerous but its a one in a lifetime thing. It would be very cool to say you completed it. That would be very tough

  • Wow! i would never do that! that would be way way too cold for me! running in a track meet at 30 degrees is already way to cold for me! i feel bad for these runners! goodluck i guess!

  • Some people really do live for the thrill and if they were to do die accomplishing there new high time thrill I think they would be okay with it. It doesnt really affect anyone but themselves. If they are happy doing it, by all means, have fun. You only got one life to live. So do it the way you want. And don't let anyone else have a say so on it.

  • I think this is nuts. It's taking adrenaline junkies to whole new level. I'm sure it would be fun to watch at first but it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. What if someone fell through? That ice cracks and it'll probably start a chain reaction and soon, all these runners are going to be struggling in freezing cold water in the DEEPEST freshwater lake on not only Siberia but the whole planet! It's just crazy.

  • I knew for this from earlier, and I this it is awesome. I assume that I would be able to do this even if I am living there because I am always cold
