Omicron Variant

Omicron Variant

The Omicron Covid-19 variant is now the most dominant strain in the US, accounting for over 73% of new coronavirus cases less than three weeks after the first was reported, according to estimates posted Monday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.” Researchers around the world are conducting studies to better understand the many aspects of Omicron and inform others about it.

It isn’t clear if omicron is more transmissible compared to other variants. More people have been testing positive for covid but they are not sure if it is because of omicron or if other factors have played into it, so there are more studies being conducted to see what the cause was. It is also not clear whether infection causes more severe disease compared to infections with other variants. There are more hospitalizations involving covid, but it could be because of increasing numbers testing positives with more severe symptoms, rather than infections surrounding omicron.

As of right now, researchers from all over are connecting to better understand omicron. Studies include assessments of transmissibility, severity of infection (including symptoms), performance of vaccines and diagnostic tests, and effectiveness of treatments.

Do you think the vaccine helps reduce the symptoms of covid?

Do you think this variant will be worse than other variants?

  • I think this varient could possibly be worse than other varients we have seen before. The varient seems to be spreading quicker than any of the other varients we have seen. I also don't think the vaccine seems to be helping reduce symptoms  of covid. People who have gotten the vaccine are unaware of the future effects it might have on their health.

  • I think that the covid vaccination will not have with the Covid. My Grandpa got the covid vaccination and got covid. I the Covid vaccination it not worth getting. And, on the channel 7 news is was said that the a lot of children that got the covid vaccination came back positive for Covid.

  • I think the vaccine will not reduce the symptoms of this variant of COVID, because COVID has mutated its genetic makeup to probably avoid the vaccine.

I do think it's gonna be a little worse, but I also think it's not the worst that is to come. I think the virus is gonna continue to mutate and create other variants of itself, but again this is my own opinion, not a fact.

  • I personally think that the Omnicron variant is the worst variant yet. Although it has only been discovered for a few weeks, It is spreading faster than any other variant. This could be because people aren't social distancing, but it could also be because the Omnicron variant spreads more easily. Although it is too early to tell, It will be interesting to see what scientists uncover from this variant.

    • I agree that this could be the worse variant because of the symptoms and how fast it is spreading.

  • I think that the covid vaccine will help symptoms not be as bad because before people were getting sent to the hospital and even dying daily from it now people are able to stay home and some people get barely any symptoms. The first variant to me was the worse and I think the other variants won't be as bad as the first one.

  • I think that the vaccine does reduce the symptoms of covid. Most people that get covid that do have the vaccine are not getting it as bad as the people that do not have the vaccine. This variant seems to be more contagious than the other variants but I don't think that the symptoms are as bad.

    • I agree that the vaccine reduces the symptoms of covid.

  • I, personally don't think that getting the vaccine would reduce the symptoms of Covid. May I say, we don't even know the long-term effects of the Vaccine yet, but they are wanting to force it upon Employers with over 100 employees. Is that right? Is that Constitutional? I understand that if you don't get it then you either A) have to get tested every week, or B) have a medical exemption. But we don't even know if the variants are going to get any worse. I mean that we can predict that they might. But I just think that it is crazy how one day, In Omaha alone, they had 7 cases of Omicron, All of a sudden BOOM, there were 251 then the next day? How does that work? If they were all self Isolating like the CDC says that they were, how was 251 get omicron overnight?

    • I agree that it should be someones choice to get vaccinated or not.
