Omicron Variant
“The Omicron Covid-19 variant is now the most dominant strain in the US, accounting for over 73% of new coronavirus cases less than three weeks after the first was reported, according to estimates posted Monday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.” Researchers around the world are conducting studies to better understand the many aspects of Omicron and inform others about it.
It isn’t clear if omicron is more transmissible compared to other variants. More people have been testing positive for covid but they are not sure if it is because of omicron or if other factors have played into it, so there are more studies being conducted to see what the cause was. It is also not clear whether infection causes more severe disease compared to infections with other variants. There are more hospitalizations involving covid, but it could be because of increasing numbers testing positives with more severe symptoms, rather than infections surrounding omicron.
As of right now, researchers from all over are connecting to better understand omicron. Studies include assessments of transmissibility, severity of infection (including symptoms), performance of vaccines and diagnostic tests, and effectiveness of treatments.
Do you think the vaccine helps reduce the symptoms of covid?
Do you think this variant will be worse than other variants?

I feel like the vaccine would help with the syptoms. Its still covid so it should at LEAST help in some ways. But I also feel like this variant will be worse, useally when a virus because a diffrent variet its a more powerful one. I have never heard of a virus that has a varient thats weaker
I think that getting the vaccine can help you build up a resistance to the covid virus so that the symptoms aren't as severe. I don't know if this variant will be worse than others or more transmissable, I just think that there needs to be more studies done on the different variants so that we can get that information.
I agree that the vaccine can reduce severity of symptoms.
1. no i dont think the vaccine works to get rid of the symptoms of covid if it worked you still woundt be getting covid if you had the vaccine
2. no i think it is just going to be like every other variant affect us all in diffrent ways
I feel that even though the vaccine helps reduce the symptoms of covid, it's still easy to catch. There are multiple people that I know that have caught covid while having the vaccine and still having the symptoms just as bad as someone without the vaccine. I've heard that the new varient is one of the worst out of the other varients but let's hope it isn't true.
I agree that even though the vaccine reduces symptoms you can still get covid.
I think that the vaccine is helping reduce the symptoms for most people. Even though vaccinated people can still get covid, the symptoms won't be as bad as compared to someone who isn't vaccinated. I don't think this variant will be worse than the others. While it is more contagious, I don't think it will have any severe symptoms compared to the other variants.
I don't now how well the vaccine actually works because I know people who have the vaccine and they still got bad symptoms. I doubt this variant will be much different from the others. I only get the vaccine so I don't have to wear a mask. I honestly don't think it does anything.
I don't think we can really rely on the vaccine quite yet because it was realeased so early and it has not been out long enough for the side affects to be tested. The vaccine may be the answer but is kinda of early to tell. I also do not think that this variant is going to be much worse than the others but it will probably depend on the person who gets it.
I agree that this vairant probably wont be that much more severe than the others.
