The Pyeongchang Olympics are currently going on and is to have over 1,000 drones in attendence hoping to break records and replace fireworks for special events with things such as light shows. Intel is the manufactoers of these drones and have been working on it for quite some time. They even tested their light drones during the 2017 suepr bowl halftime show with Lady Gaga.
Only 3 people are needed to operate all of these drones which is really pretty impressive for 1,200 drones working under ony 3 people. All that is neeed to do is someone manually must turn on a power switch which activates all drones and is controlled by 3 people during the Olympics right now. For the Olympics, the drones are to make a light show forming the Olympic Rings. During the snowboarding event, the drones are going to resemble a snowboarder going down a hill.
1) For these special events, would you rather like to see fireworks or these new drone ideas?
- I would like to see what this drones can accomplish but I still like fireworks
2) Do you think these drones are safe?
- Yes I believe they are because they have not ever harmed anyone.

I would like to see the new drone ideas because sometimes fireworks can be unsafe. Fireworks are pretty to look at but, things can go very wrong with them at the wrong moments. Yes I think the drones are safer then fireworks because fireworks explode and drones really don't do that. Fireworks are made with chemcials. Drones are basically robots. Overall i think drones are the safest way to go.
I would like to see fireworks because they are most colorful and I feel like drones are just technology taking over. I think they are safe but the flyers would have to make sure nothing was in the drones way for safety.
I think it would be really cool to see the drones instead of fireworks. I think we should try to incorperate more and more technolgy into the world. Yes, drones have been around for a long time and I think us as humans are getting used to them. Also the people who will be flying them are safe and skilled.
Yes I agree with that because drones are safe as of right now and are much more technolically advanced and I think are a step in the right direction. I also think it is really cool how it looks comapred to fireworks.
I would perfer Fireworks. I think they are safe but it would cause some tension and you never know when a drone attack could happen exceptionally since we were worried to send out people over there. I think we should keep the fireworks because we know them as a celebration and its a good and pretty thing to do.
I can definitly see your point why it would be safer but there is dangerous fireworks too, so they are both a little dangerous I suppose. Though I would still like to see fireworks maybe alongisde drones.
I’d rather watch the drones. Fireworks are a nice tradition and it would be nice if they had a few, but 1200 drones controlled by 3 people is amazing. I don’t think their anymore dangerous than fireworks are. Yes they come with risks of one losing power and something going wrong, but fireworks pose the risk of being fired wrong/not high enough and starting a fire.
I also think fireworks are a nice tradition but it is always good for improving. I also agree with that they are just as dangerous as fireworks because fireowkrs have caused fatal injuries before and not many drone have.
Me personally would like to see fireworks but, if its something new i'll look at it. Yes but no because Yes becuase it would look cool and then No because what happens if they fall and hurt many people.
