After a nine day stakeout, the deer was saved. It was tranquilized before the arrow shaft and blade were removed. The deer frequented the backyard of Susan Darrah's Rockaway Township home. They named the young buck "Steve Martin" after the comedian's similar head piece. It was tranquilized and released Saturday evening by New Jersey Fish and Wildlife officials. The deer didn't require any stitches or surgery to remove the arrow. They simply unscrewed the arrow head and removed the shaft. Very little infection was found, but the deer was still given a shot of antibiotics.
In my opinion, it's good that they didn't simply put the deer down because the injury was not life threatening and damage was minimal. Good job to the New Jersey Fish and Wildlife officials who removed the arrow.

Well done! Be sure to pose a question to the audience.
Either way comes out in a positive. The deer dies you get food, the deer lives you save a life. It is a great thing they saved the life though.
Im glad people are willing to help injured animals and also that they didnt kill it.
Wow. This is a weird story.. But it's nice that they didn't put it down though. I mean it wouldn't make a difference with me at all.
awful...Someone shot a venison and brought it to our house last weekend
I can't believe they saved the deer after it got shot with an arrow in the head. I agree with you, I'm glad they didn't just put it down.
It does make a difference when it is simply through the snout and not the skull. I mean, why put it down when it doesn't have a fatal injury?
When you look at the arrow head it doesn't look like it would fit where it did. it just doesn't look right.
Maybe the arrowhead was changed from something like a field tip to what was on the arrow to keep the arrow in the deer's snout? I don't know. It is interesting how little damage was left by the arrowhead
