Last week a 13 year old boy was shot and killed by police who believed he was carrying an assault rifle. The incident occurred in California and began with the 13 year old (Andy Cruz) walking down the street with a fake assault rifle in his hand and a fake pistol in his belt. Two cops spotted the boy and pulled over and demanded that he drop the weapon. As Andy Cruz began to turn around, the officers feared that he might open fire and as a result, they shot and killed 13 year old Andy Cruz.
I think that the officers acted prematurely, I also think that they should’ve attempted to find another way to resolve the situation before killing the 13 year old… What do you think?... Should the officers be punished for their actions? …Why do you think the 13 year old was carrying fake guns down the street?

Great job Levi!
You must be a magician, another topic i could reply!Sometimes something was ridiculous, just like dad help his little daughter take bath blablabla...but finally was shot!
The officers have the right to protect themselves, but they should have waited more. They could have drawn their guns, but their was no need to shoot the boy. I don't think the officers should be punished because they were trying to protect themselves. Sure, they did a bad, but they were doing it for their own safety. The boy was probably carrying the guns because he was going to play cowboys with his friends. I have no idea. I highly doubt he was carrying them with the intent of being intimidating.
This a awful for the people wanting to keep guns. This is something the government can use to help ban guns. The police should have tried something better than resorting to shooting him, But if the fake guns didn't have the orange tip on them then yes, this what would have happen the orange tips on the guns are there for a reason and this is one of them.
I agree... The cops need to think through the situation a little before they act
I definitely think that they should have had their guns at the ready but not shot him until he turned around.
I agree. they should have been more cautious before acting in the way they did
I don't think the cops should be charged, they didn't know the guns were fake, the boy should have dropped the weapons. I think the officers were fearing for their lives and shot him in self defense. Maybe the boy was going to a friends house or something to go play a game, who knows.
I think that they shouldn't have acted so quickly... they shot him before he could respond or turn around...
My question is; Did they shoot him in the head or back or did they try to stop him by just shooting him in the arm or leg and he just bled out before paramedics arrived. He was thirteen, still young enough to be playing with toys. They should've thought faster and came up with a better plan.
