Obama vows action on gun violence

After the shooting in Newtown last week Obama made a vow to take action against guns in order to save lives of innocent people.

My opinion on this is that it's not the guns that are responsible for these events it's the people. There are also good people out there who carry a gun on their person on a daily basis to be able to prevent these things from happening. But it looks like he trying to portray that guns are bad. The second amendment is also a big reason that no one dares fighting us on our soil because the estimated number of guns in civilian hands in america is around 270 million.

  • I think it is clear that there is far too many violent acts in America due to guns. When people say "guns don't kill people, people kill people" it's a true statement. However, I believe there should be stricter laws on how to get a hold of a gun. I understand people want self defense and enjoy the sport of hunting. Yet, to me I don't understand why some weapons are available for the average citizen, such as the gun used in the Newtown Massacre. Maybe that is just my ignorance, but I refuse to believe that America doesn't need to take some sort of action towards gun policies.

  • Thanks for posting this Karl. Gun control is going to be a very hot topic going forward after the school shooting in Newtown.

  • The guns are not the problem... It is the people shooting the guns. If they outlaw guns, then I think people will try to find more ways to cause destruction. I think a good way to solve this problem is to do more back-round checks on people, and maybe find a way to see if they have mental health issues. If so, then do not sell them a weapon of any kind.

  • If they try to out law guns it will not work because people who want them will still get them and use them in what ever pleases them. Taking guns away is not a good solution to the problem. A better solution might be to require training for those who walk in an buy guns and hope that maybe some of those others will teach others about safety before giving them the gun.

  • Guns aren't the problem. It is the person behind the trigger. I'm sure if a gun wasn't available to the shooter he would find something else to use. Guns protect people and it is our right to own guns. What's going to be" controlled" or banned after this whole gun situation? knives are used to kill people. What about nail guns? People need to stop blaming weapons for the problems of society and the people who do the crimes.

  • I agree with Karl. Guns dont kill people, people kill people. There are some weird people out there who obviously don't think about much besides them selves. This shooting was terrible, especially with so many 5 or 6 year olds getting shot with so much potential in their life. It's sickening because these kids could've actually grown up and somehow could've really done something to change the world. I think that Obama is looking at this completely the wrong way. It's all the wrong people that are getting their hands on guns and doing these terrible things.

  • The gun doesn't kill people, people kill people. Taking action against guns won't stop anything. If they want to take action for what happened then they should make sure people who purchase the guns and the people living in their house are all in a good mental state and don't have the possibility for doing things like this.

  • There is also people go hunting for some of their meat to live and we us a 22 and other types of guns. if he takes away our guns how are we suppose to get food

  • I think thats dumb. its not guns its the people that have guns. instead of gun regulations we need psycho path control.

  • I agree with you that it is the people not the guns that are hurting people. I also think that is impossible to ban guns because of the fact that people will still get them illegally. For example: Drugs are illegal, yet there is still an enormous drug trade in the U.S.
