Obama Says He Would Not Run For Third Term

Barack Obama says in a CBS interview that he would not run for a third term even if he had the opportunity to do it. Obama said that it takes to big of a toll on family life, and that the White House needs to be filled with renewed energy and more new ideas. According to Obama he states that America is in better shape than when we came into office. He says that the thing that makes him happiest about leaving office next January is that he gets to leave the "bubble." The bubble, according to Obama, is the tight security around him at all times. He says that is the hardest thing of the presidency.

Questions:

Do you believe it is better, worse, or the same than before he was president? Why?

How annoying do you think the security would be at all times?

  • Great job Deren!

  • As I live in another country I can't tell if he really changed much during his presidency. I think him saying that he wouldn't want to be the president again shows how stressful it is to be the president and I think especially having security around you all the time must be very annoying! I definitely wouldn't be able to do this, as I need privacy in my life.

  • I would hate being watched at all times and being told certain things I couldn't do. I in my own opinion think it is worse he made changes that didn't need to be changed.

    • I agree with you because then you would not be able to just go out and be with family. Everything that you thought would be normal with your life would get taken away. You would never to be able to continue your old life like it was. Obviously until you have left or been removed from office.

  • Well there has obviously been some things that have been better, it certainly has not remained the same. Many people would say worse for sure. We have gone more and more into debt since his presidency began. I think it would be a huge pain, because you constantly have someone by you all the time. You never get privacy, and have to be careful where you go and anything you say.

    • Obama has tried to put many things into effect while he has been president, as many of them did not work he tried and gave ideas to future presidents. Also it's not all Obama's fault that the United States is in debt the president can't change that himself.

  • I feel like security would get very annoying. It's like having a living shadow. I understand that its important to have security but also very annoying. Standing outside my bedroom door at night, by the bathroom door. It just seems over excessive.

    • I think that it would get annoying, that's why I agree with you. You would not be able to live your life the way you thought, or wanted it to before he took the oath of office, Exactly, you would have people around you at all times, it would be very hard not to feel like you are being stalked.

  • I agree with Obama when he says that the White House needs to be filled with new energy and more ideas, I definitely think that this is something that needs to happen.  I know that Obama has tried to implement some things during his presidency, but I think that he's had a hard time doing this because the House is Republican controlled. I definitely think security would be annoying, especially because people like us are so used to being able to go anywhere at anytime.

    • Agreed, and at least he realizes that there needs to be new energy and ideas. He has tried very hard to make new things happen in house, but as you stated it is more of a one sided house so many of his ideas were shot down very fast. If you couldn't live your life with your family like you did before your presidency I would want to leave to. Then he could get back to somewhat of a normal life again.
