After several mass shooting in our nations past, President Obama has been trying to pass stricter gun laws. There have been several pleas to congress but none of them have been put into action. Obama talked to Attorney General Loretta Lynch to see what he could do on his own to pass gun laws without congress. Turns out congress as been going behind the scene on this issue for years and has new standards for gun control.
The changes with include deeper federal background checks on the individuals purchases weapons. Also the tracking of stolen weapons will be better. Not only that but also making the guns safer in terms of mass shootings. An example of that would be making clips smaller.
What are you thoughts on gun control?
Do you believe that the U.S. is making a step forward or do you think this will back fire?

Good overall but be sure to comment throughout the week and not just on one night.
My reply got accidentally deleted but here is what i said.
I Strongly believe that Obama is doing a great job with becoming more strict with gun laws. I believe he made it stricter because people are not using them correctly. Instead of using them for hunting and for protection, they are using them for violence. If people are not going to be responsible for this dangerous weapon, why do you need it or why do you have one? The goal for this is to make sure that the guns don't end up in the hands of the wrong people. If you are responsible, and you don't have criminal records, then you may have a gun for protection. For example, just like Obama said people can track a phone but they can't track a gun. Simple technology can prevent kids from opening dangerous medicines, but they can't stop a kid from accidentally shooting a gun. I believe that the U.S is taking a step forward. We need to stop acting like Obama is going to take away our guns. He is just making you responsible enough to have one. You have a right to own a gun, but you don't have a right if you are not responsible. By enforcing gun control, he is protection your 2nd amendment right, not taking it away. Just keep in mind the common quote, "People kill people, not guns"
I think stricter gun laws are an important and reasonable step for our country to make. Mass shootings are obviously very dangerous and have huge effects on the victims, but I think things like gang violence can be reduced as well by eliminating guns from the hands of untrained people. If we require more rigorous background checking and safety training, guns would be much less dangerous to our society.
I know some will make the argument that stricter gun laws will backfire (pun intended) because the government will "take our weapons, round us up, and kill us all." However, when we hear about this happening, we hear about it in old, third-world countries run by dictators. It wouldn't be allowed to happen in the US.
I think what Obama is doing to pass stricter gun laws and things have some good and some bad. I think that the background check are a good idea, but the only thing that could do wrong is that someone who passes the background check and had done nothing would be able to purchase a gun, and they would make dumb mistakes or do something that is bad i.e a mass shooting. Ye,s they are trying to make things more strict, but we still have to be able to defend ourselves. One thing they are trying to do to make the problems with gun control is possibly make the clips to the gun smaller, I don't think that this would make much of a difference and for the people that want to use the guns for other reasons this would be a problem maybe. I think that it is a good idea for some reasons bu bad for others.
I agree there are always good people that turn and do bad things. I know Obama wants better gun control but I don't see how he plans on carrying things out. The people that are determined to do wrong will find a way.
My thoughts on gun control is that if people have the gun in their house hold they had to take several classes to be able to keep the gun. Plus we have the right to bear arm. Like lets say what if someone bad came into out house hold demanding something? If they take the guns away what is going to keep us safe. Nothing. We have absolutely no way to defend ourselves. I think not having guns is going to end up with more murders, bank robberies, and other crimes. My opinion is if you believe in gun control cool. If you don't oh well. Because not everyone is going to have the same opinion on everything that goes on in the world. I think with taking the guns away it will be a huge back fire. I honestly think it is unsafe to have a gun to protect you in your own home. What is it to the government if I paid for a gun and I keep it in my house to keep my family and myself safe. It isn't bothering them in anyway so what is the real point in taking away our guns? There isn't,
Self defense is obviously a big part of most peoples live and I can see why. Those people that do go to the extra extent to getting a gun for their safety is fine. By the looks of what Obama's saying it doesn't look like he's trying to take away that amendment but just tone it down a little bit. That way people don't have these semi- automatic weapon that can take out several people in a matter of a few seconds.
My thoughts on gun control is that whether people have guns or not bad things in this world will still happen. By enforcing stricter gun laws maybe the amount of people being killed in America will go down. I think having a gun is a huge responsibility and that we should have the right to bear arms. I've seen all over people think guns are the problem. Personally, I don't believe that. I think it's the people who own the guns are the problem. By enforcing stricter rules like having background checks on people who are purchasing the guns I think this will limit the amount of mass killings in America. Owning a gun is a right and should not be taken for granted. I think this is definitely making a step forward in the United States.
That's true people are the ones killing other people. We simply cannot place the blame on the gun, however some guns are very powerful compared to other guns but the human is still the one who pulls the trigger. I think Obama wan't to get rid of those high powered guns that kill more people in a smaller time frame than mot guns.
Gun control I think has some good but also some bad. I think gun control in ways that we can't just think of the reason we want guns but we need to think about the reasons murderers and other criminal people want guns. We need to recognize not just the way we use them but the way this world uses them. There are so many deaths from guns, but guns aren't the only problem. Gun control is bad in ways like sometimes guns are the only way to protect yourselves from the bad people of the world. So in that way gun control may be not so good anymore. I think this might backfire because even with stricter gun control the people who want them for bad reasons are still going to find a way to get them no matter what we do.
