On Monday, September 16th, a shooter walked into a Washington Naval Yard. The shooter was believed to have mental illness and should have been in a hospital. He left 13 dead and 14 people injured.

At the memorial service for the navy yard shooting victims, Obama was asked to speak, and what he said had a lot to do with gun control. Obama talked about how easy it is to get a gun nowadays, and how mass shootings are happening all over the world because of it. He believes that America is becoming numb to the situations, because of the frequency that these mass shootings are happening. I think there should be more policies on keeping people in hospitals if necessary. Do you think our government is keeping tight enough security on firearms, and do you think more people should be treated in mental hospitals instead of being set out in the world when nobody knows what to expect from them?

  • Good topic and well done! You could have replied a bit more but did well when you did reply.

  • YEs, They shoyuld hae tried to keep him in a hospital. They knew that he was mentally ill but still kept him out o the hospital, not knowing what could happen.

  • I think they should have kept him in the hospital until they knew he was fully recovered. I think if they should do a background check if they don't already in order to get a gun. Hopefully someday these mass shootings will stop.

  • I agree with all the stuff you guys have been saying. Taking away guns wouldn't take them away from the criminals. It'd take them away from people who could use them against criminals in these situations.

  • I think that as you said hospitals need to do more for the mentally ill and unstable. Also I think if you have any history of mental illness or a violent past that you shouldn't be able to get a gun. But even if we put these restrictions criminals will always find a way to get guns. If someone can figure out how to stop that then they should be president.

  • I think the gun control in our country is just fine. Background checks should be more thorough on people though. In some other countries gun control is awful, almost every person in some countries have guns and it's very bad. The only thing I think they should improve is background checks on people.

  • I think that raising a child who could possibly be mentally ill you would notice.

  • I agree with you about how they need to put a better police on guns. I think you should only be able to purchase guns if you have a clean record with no criminal violence.

  • No I do not think our government is keeping a tight enough rope on security firearms I think people get a hold of them that should be no where near a fire arm. If they can't use it correctly then they don't need to use it at all. Also yes more people need to be in a mental institute because a lot of people have issues and can't comprehend everything and things go through there mind and we might not have a clue what that is. Also some mental people end up having a firearm and don't know how to use it. That is what is kind of scary now a days.
