Nurse Arrested for Doing Her Job

Alex Wubble was the charge nurse on the night of July 26th when two officers came in asking to get a blood sample from an unconscious patient, which is against the hospital policy. The hospital policy is that the police must have a warrant, consent from the patient, or the patient must be under arrest, which the patient was not. Wubble then proceeded to call her supervisor where they told the police the same exact things. The police then arrested Wubble, where she sat in the police car for 20 minutes but was then let ago with no charges. The hospital policy has now been changed to one that the police are using, but it was not stated what the new policy is in the article. Wubble released the video in hope to raise awareness of the hospital policy. The police chief and the mayor have now apologized for this incident.

Questions:

1.) If you were Wubble what would you have done in this situation?

2.) Would you press charges against these officers? Why or why not?

Answers:

If I was Wubble I would have done the same exact thing she did. I know what it is like to not be able to let someone do something because of the policy of the building you work in. It is difficult to not let them do it when you know they are just doing their job. There is no reason why the police should have acted like that, Wubble was just trying to do her job. I myself would press charges against the police officers. They did the wrong thing and need to understand that their actions have consequences.

  • Super job Abbie!

  • 1 - The same thing she did, try to tell other people about what happened to make sure it didn't happen again

2 - No, the whole thing was really just a misunderstanding, but I don't think they should have arrested her for doing what she was told to do.

  • If I were Wubble, I would do exactly what she did. She was following procedures and that is what I would do. I would not press charges though. The officers most likely had a valid reason to get the blood sample, but they handled the situation wrong.

    • In my opinion I don't think that she had the option to really let this one go. She informed the police many times of what the policy was and yet they still proceeded to try and get the blood sample. She showed them the policy and she had her supervisor tell them the policy, so I don't know what they wouldn't understand.

  • 1. I agree I would probably do the same thing she did, and if the police arrest you then you are being arrested for a good cause. Let's say that the hospital policy is the law, if you break a rule it's like breaking the law. Honestly, I think the police should've been able to understand that. I would press charges against the officers because they arrested the lady for no reason. I also agree that the officers actions do have consequences.

    • I would not want to be arrested for doing my job. She did her job and got punished for that, and to me that just doesn't seem right. In my opinion I think that the police should have thought about what they would have done in that situation. You can't tell me that no police officers have never been able to do something because of a policy.

  • If I were Alex Wubble, I think I would've done the exact same thing because I can't really disobey the police. I don't know if I would press charges to be honest. I wasn't there at the scene where that happened, so I don't know whether or not I would press charges.

    • I would not want to disobey the police ever but in this situation I think it was the only thing to do. The police weren't listening to what she was telling them. Even though I wasn't there to see what happened I think that no matter what some form of charges should be pressed because they did the wrong thing and need to understand that.

  • 1.I would have done the same thing. It was brave of her to stand her ground against police officers. She was correct to stop them from this because it was the hospitals policy, which her advisers confirmed and everyone has to abide by the policy even law officials.

2.I would not press charges against the officers because it was a mistake on their part and everyone makes mistakes, even if they are alarming and hurtful.

    • I would not have the nerve to stand up to the police the way she did. She did actually what she thought she had to do to keep her patients safe. The supervisor told the police the same exact thing and they still didn't listen. I do think that this was a huge mistake, but I do think that they need to know that what they did was wrong.
