Elliot Evans, 16, from Suffolk was on his usual night run. He was preparing himself for track. He never ran farther than a mile from his home. This is a good thing when one afternoon he was running on a village playing field and he came face to face with a black panther. This deadly big cat then began following him for miles. Elliot ran close to the school. The field in which he was running in.
Elliot stated " I was going down to the field to run some sprints. At first I thought it was a big dog. But then realized that I was the only one down by the field so its owner wasn't around. "It was still there, staring at me. I thought maybe my eyes were messing with me but I started to feel kind of anxious and sprinted across the pitch. I was stunned when I turned around and it was following me."
"At this point, I was growing nervous, so I shone the torch on my phone and saw two large eyes, too far apart for it to be any dog. It went prone and began coming towards me again. It must have been between four and five feet long, at least."
Evans then ran back to his house that was only blocks from the school. But he realized the more he picked up his speed so did the big cat. So he slowed down just a little bit. As soon as he reached his neighbors house he banged on the door and as soon as he opened he ran inside. Then later explained what was going on an Evans called his parents.
Questions
How would you react if you came face to face with a black panther?
When you realized it were following you, would you do the same thing he did? Why or why not?
Opinion- I would definitely be scared and try to stay calm. I wouldn't want to panic because animals can smell fear. I would go to the closest person's house I knew so I could tell someone. Call my parents and even the police to take the animal away so no one had to deal with what he had to.
Replies
Good job overall, but again, reply to a few more students.
That would be a terrifying experience, but what he did was the right thing, and I probably would have done something like that too. Like you said, they can smell fear, and it would be hard to try and stay calm.
I would be scared depending on the situation, if I were in my home looking out the window I would be fine, but staring at it with nothing in between me and the animal would be scaring. My sister and mom say that they have seen a panther one night on their way from home. There have also been other sightings around my area of a black panther.
If I came face to face with black panther I would stand still and hope it's like a mountain lion and possible won't attack. I would do the same thing except I wouldn't knock I would bust in their and hope they're in a good mood and will understand.
I would probably freak out and start running away as fast as I can I would probably do the same thing because it helped him live to tell the story
I would be terrified and probably panic a little bit inside. I would handle it how he did and try to get away from the animal and go to the nearest house to get help.
I would not really know what to do. Its odd that a big wild cat would be in that kind of area. I would probably just keep moving and ignore the cat.
I would be so freaked out I wouldn't know what to do. I don't know how I would react, because I don't know how the panther is going to react. I can't run, so hopefully there is a house near by so that I could have a place to hide. I would call the police and animal control to get rid of it and have the police make sure people stay in their homes.
I think I would freak out a little bit. I would first try to arm myself with a weapon, because you don't know when the panther might attack. He is very lucky that the panther didn't run him down while he jogged home. When I realized that it might be following me, I would first arm myself and then do the same thing he did, and check like every other second to make sure that I wasn't going to get eaten.
If I came face first with a black panther I would FREAK out! You never know what their instinct is about you and whether they are going to attack or not. I would definitely try to do that same thing Elliot did, he stayed calm which did not trigger the panther to attack. He did the right thing by keeping to do what he was doing and make his way back home.
