Jonathan Ferrell, a 24-year-old North Carolina man, suffered a severe late-night car crash. His car slipped into a ravine. He had to kick his way out the back windshield. He managed to get out of the car and go to a nearby home, where he knocked on the door repeatedly for help. When police arrived, he approached them -- and one shot him repeatedly, killing him on the spot. Now the officer is charged with manslaughter. Police say he had no cause to shoot Ferrell. Monday afternoon, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said in a news release that its investigation determined the officer "fired his weapon 12 times and struck Mr. Ferrell 10 times resulting in his death."
The incident over the weekend has sparked outrage. "We're going to file the necessary legal actions to ensure that we get the answers that this family deserves, that America deserves," the man's brother, Willie Ferrell, told CNN on Monday. "This was an unwarranted, inhumane shooting." In an interview with CNN's "New Day," Ferrell's mother, Georgia, described her son as "very, very happy," outgoing, and loving to his friends and family. He held down two jobs and would call her every morning to talk for about an hour. "I can't even think of a bad thing he had done," she said.
What do you think about this incident? Do you think it was a act of racism? What do you think led the officer to shoot 12 shots at him? The man obviously posed no threats at all and was a good guy, so why do you think this happened?

The man was obviously hurt or he wouldn't of gone to some random person's house and knocked continuously, and I want to know why the people that lived there just decided that he didn't need any help. Also I do think this was an act of racism because not all people are over the fact that there are other people in this world that aren't the same color as them. The officer obviously had some stupid idea going through his head because most cops know better then to shoot somebody when they haven't done anything wrong. The cop obviously had some issues also maybe this cop knew this person and really hated him I really don't know why it happened.
He was not trying to heat any one and yet he dies. why do people think that all blacks are bad because most aren't. The ones that you see on TV are the bad ones and i question sometimes what went though the cops mind as he was shooting that man. Why do people do things like this
This is a tragedy. This incident reminds me of the trayvon martin case and how he was slaughtered in a similar fashion (he was shot by somebody who shouldn't have a gun). I believe this was an act of racial profiling, but what I don't understand is why they police needed to have their guns drawn.
This is crazy it is like racial profiling. Did he shoot him because he was black maybe, because the black male was clearly unarmed this is crazy.
I think this was an act of racism judging by the number of shots fired at the man. He posed no threat and had no way to defend himself. There had to have been an underlying motive for the officer to do what he did to the man.
The poor guy only wanted help after a crash! The cop should not have shot Ferrell 10 times, or even started firing at him. Ferrell did advance on the officers, but you'd think they would be able to tell he was hurt from the crash. The woman had called and they were responding to a "breaking and entering" call or so they thought. I don't think racism was a big part of this. There was probably a little if the officer shot 12 times. The officers were just doing what they thought was right, but it wasn't. They shouldn't have shot at Ferrell.
I think it partially relates to racism. The officer could of had consumed something in his body to make him act so outrageous. There wasn't a reason to kill the man in the first place.
This crime really reminds me of what happened to Trayvon Martin. This is terrible. The Trayvon Martin incident didn't go as far as this. People not liking another race will never stop in my opinion, but killing another race. Way to far!! I am curious why the shooter shot him 12 times! Jonathan didn't even say anything, he just was looking for help. Then he got shot? This is just so sad!
I think he thought the guy had a gun or something. But I still don't think he would need to shoot at him that many times. All it takes is one good shot, not 10/12 good shots.
