North Carolina bill would set up online registry for convicted animal abusers
A bill passed in North Carolina last week requires convicted animal abusers’ be placed on a registry for around two years. The legislation titled North Carolina Animal Abuser Registry Act was introduced by North Carolina state Senators Floyd McKissick Danny Britt. The online registry includes a photo of the abuser taken when they are arrested, their full name, and any other identifying information necessary. The registry will be much like that of convicted sex offenders. First time offenders will be placed on the registry for two years following the conviction. Second time offenders will be placed on the registry for five years. Along with being placed on the registry repeat offenders will give up their animals and will be prohibited from owning another for five years following the conviction. McKissick says the primary purpose of the bill is to lower animal abuse. Earlier this week, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam signed legislation that makes cruelty against dogs and cats a felony. Convicted abusers in the state could face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $2,500.

Do you think this is a great punishment?
I think the they should not be able to have another animal ever. Waiting only five years is not near long enough.
Do you think this will lower animal abuse?
I don’t know if it will lower animal abuse, but I hope that it will.
Should other states follow North Carolina’s lead?
I think other states should do this. It can help prevent animal abuses from buying more animals.

Great job replying! Be sure to come up with your own title and also be sure to capitalize key words in your title. In college, this would be considered plagiarism. You changed some words around but for the most part it is very similar to the story.
I think that the punishment isn't very good. I agree with you about not being able to have another animal ever. If someone is cruel to one animal, who knows what they would do if they got another. I don't think it will but it might. yes i do think that they should follow other states lead. It would make there less animal abuse around.
1.) I believe that if convicted animal abusers only have to wait 5 years before they can get another animal to abuse is messed up and they should NEVER be allowed to purchase another animal at all.
2.) I am not completely sure if this will lower it, during the 5 years that most people will face I do think that animal abuse would dwindle but right after that five years I don't believe that the person would have developed on understanding that hurting animals is wrong and I think this might actually raise animal abuse. Although I hope it will lower the animal abuse rates.
I don't think they should ever be able to own another animal again. I also think it would help lower the amount of animal abuser. I also think more states should start doing the same becuase nobody should ever abuse animals. They should make it more than two or five years because people that do that probably won't change just because they get their pets taken away.
I don't think it's a good punsihment because it only prohibits them for 5 years and I think that it should be longer. I don't think that it will lower animal abuse because the law is very hard to enforce and I don't think many people will follow it. I think that other states should follow because it's a step in the right direction.
I don't think that they should be able to own a animal of any type. This probably will lower animal abuse but not by much. I think every state should do this because it isn't right for the animal to go through this.
I agree, that it should be longer than 5 year or permenent to not be able to own a pet because no animal deserves to be treated like that. If every state followed that more animals would be safer and out of harms way from people that abuse animals.
No, I don't think this is a grea punishment. I think they need to do something else. I don't think this will lower animal abuse but maybe it was help a little bit. I think other states have to make that choice themselves.
I agree, I don't think they should ever be able to own an animal again becuase they are just going to continue to abuse them when they are allowed to get another one after the five years are up. I think it will lower animal abuse becuase if you get caught then everyone who abuses animals will hopefully not be able to own one for awhile. I think every state should pass a law like North Carolina did.
Owning pets is a priviledge, so therefore if that is abused, these people should not be able to own an animal every again. The five year wait should become a permanent one, because animals should not have to go through abuse they have no control over. Other states should follow NC's lead, because it is a great idea for a time like this.
