No challenge against pot legalization

Apparently, the government has no plans to get Colorado and Washington to change their policies about marijuana or stop other states from legalizing it. The only thing they're worried about is making regulations to help stop trafficking.

How do you guys feel about them not trying to stop states from legalizing marijuana? Do you think it was a bad idea or a good one?

  • I think that they should stop states from trying to legalizing marijuana. Most times the wrong people get it and it causes a mess. They need to do something about it.

  • I do not have a problem with this although they do need to keep it illegal in some places like towns or cities to limit the flow a little bit because otherwise kid's and teens can get a hold of it and if it is legal it will make it so much easier.

    • But following that logic, that would mean that the government should do the same for alcohol. Kids and teens can get alcohol fairly easily, even in small towns like Harlan.

  • I think they should just legalize it. If it's already legalized in Colorado and Washington, why not everywhere else? There is very little evidence that smoking marijuana as a means of taking it represents a significant health risk. Might as well make it legal, so people aren't getting in trouble for something else other states allow.

    • This is one of the main points that people who are for it bring up. And because it's not as dangerous as other drugs, it seems to just be a petty crime.

  • I could see it both ways. Since it is a very helpful drug if used properly, people would want it legalized strictly for that purpose. But as human beings, there will always be someone who abuses it to the point of it becoming illegal once again. So, my opinion would be to keep it illegal.

    • But if you think back to the prohibition, they thought making alcohol illegal would help things. 14 years later alcohol's legal again. If it's already legal now, taking it away will just anger people.

  • I think they should keep trying to stop states from legalizing it. There are many ways this could go wrong if it gets into the wrong hands. They need to keep trying for the safety of other people.
