A Nigerian air force jet has accidentally killed and injured many civilians in Rann, in the north-east of the country, the military has said. Army spokesman Maj-Gen Lucky Irabor said the jet's pilot had mistakenly believed he was attacking insurgents. He said the mission had been ordered, based on intelligence about a gathering of Boko Haram fighters.International aid agency MSF says at least 50 people were killed and more than 100 injured in the incident. Aid workers are among the casualties - the Red Cross says six of its workers are confirmed dead. The attack took place near Nigeria's border with Cameroon where the army has been fighting Boko Haram militants.

Story

How do you think the military plane lost control?

Do you really think that it was a mistake?

I think that his GPS got screwed up and sent him to the wrong location.

I feel like it was a tech issue that made him make the mistake.

  • I wouldn't say lost control, I think there was a technical difficulty that mistakenly sent the pilot in the wrong direction leading to the deaths of innocent people. I do believe it was a mistake. Who would want to kill innocent people that don't deserve it.

    • Yes i feel you but i feel like the military should be faulted instead of the pilot.

  • I think the plane had technical difficulties. I think it was a mistake. They were probably planning on attacking somewhere else rather than the civilian location.

    • Yes that is the same way i feel and that it was not the pilots fault.

  • I think that something must of happened for either the GPS to get messed up or for the pilot to loss track of where he was. I do think this was an accident. I don't think that anyone would do that on purpose knowing that they could kill hundreds of people.

    • I feel that the pilot did not lose track but the gps must have messed up. Yeah i could see that but i still think that this attack was not on purpose

  • Something in the plane probably went wrong and that caused some technical difficulties on-board. I think it was a mistake, they were going to attack someone but they probably weren't intending to attack those civilians.

    • Yes something must have malfunctioned. And your right it was a huge mistake on the military side

  • I think that the plane had some technical issues and the pilot lost control over the airplane. Like you said their GPS might had led them to the wrong location. I don't believe that they killed that many innocent people on purpose. It should have been prevented somehow, they should put more restrictions on pilots and check them over and they also should double check the plane before it takes off, so that no technical issues will occur.
