I'm sure it is no surprise that major sports athletes consume a lot of food, but have you ever stopped to think about how much they actually eat? An article was released stating how much one team eats per week. Of course, the amounts can vary depending on if they have a game that week, and how hard their practices were. The article was written about the Washington Redskins, and throughout the article it was said that on average one person from the team consumes 4,000 calories per day. That is double what is recommended for the average adult. The main point that was stated was that in one week the team consumed 875 pounds of fish, 420 pounds of chicken, 110 pounds of pasta, 54 dozen eggs, and 50 watermelons. That is just the dishes that were part of the main course. There was a lot more food not included.

My Answers.

I knew that the players ate a lot but I didn't have a clue it was going to be this much! I would hate to be the person paying the bill, and the person cooking all that food. I think that it is strange that a player is allowed to eat that much food because they need to be in the very best shape possible.

  • I was shocked by this article, as I thought that NFL players should be in good shape, however I do understand that protein and foods if you eat the right kind can help to build muscle which can enhance athletic ability

  • Im really not the surprised because they are constantly working out and when you work out you need to have something to keep you going. like I said before, they work out all the time so that helps them and when you have enough food to stay fuller longer it helps you worker harder and you aren't thinking about being hungry. 

    • I was surprised. I know that they work out constantly but I still think that there is a lot of food there for people to consume. I think that the are hungry after every workout though.

  • I think its kinda crazy that they need THAT much food, while obviously stronger people need more calories so they don't starve when building muscles, I still think that is incredibly high. I don't find it too odd that they are allowed to eat this much food because of my afformentioned evidence.

    • I believe that it is very crazy how much food they consume. I think that because of how much they workout it is a little less shocking how much they eat, but  I am surprised they stay in that good of shape with that much food.

  • I wasn't really surprised because over the summer I watched a football reality T.V show. I noticed that when they were eating, their plates were overflowing with food. I do not think that it is odd for a professional athelete to eat a lot because they burn it off during practices.

    • I can see where you are coming from. I think that it is still an excessive amount of food. If they burn a lot of calories I can see why they eat so much though.

  • Thats a lot of food. Wow that is a lot of food, but maybe not because there are a lot of people on the team and each of them eat a good amount and then multiply that by three and then multiply that by seven. The numbers add up. I think if you work out as much as they do then its not that big of a deal that they eat double the average.

    • I think that it isn't as bad if you do the math, but I do think that that is still a lot of food. I thought that for how in shape they were that they would eat less than what they do.
