NFL players protesting the national anthem

As another Sunday comes, more and more NFL players kneel during the national anthem. According to Colin Kaepernick, the 49ers QB who was the first to kneel, he says he kneels to protest the police brutality and the racial injustice our country has towards African Americans. Since Colin, many players have joined in, either kneeling or raising a fist. Even some high school teams are beginning to follow. Colin was not the first to protest, Jackie Robinson, the first African American MLB player did many years ago. He never stood during the national anthem. And in the 1968 Olympics, two African American medal winners both raised a fist in protest.

What are your thoughts towards the actions of the players?

Do you think they have a valid reason to protest?

Why do you think the players are protesting in this way, rather then during an interview?

  • Good topic and well done! Be sure to hyperlink correctly.

  • I think that doing anything but showing respect to the National anthem, flag, or our country is disrespectful not only to the people in it but the ones who fought to protect it. I think these football players who are making millions of dollars a year are just fine and need to protest in a more respectful to the country they live in. Maybe these football players protest should be not playing in a game and not getting paid, we will see how they feel then.

  • I think this action is extremely stupid and disrespectful. Without the men and women who fought for the national anthem, nobody would be free and everyone would be treated as garbage. I think there are other ways to protest this but kneeling during the national anthem is a terrible thing and I think anyone who is doing it shouldn't be allowed to play football or live in this great nation.

  • I don't see how protesting the National Anthem will help any with racial injustice. If anything, it may make it worse. Racists may start to look at the players as disrespectful to our country. I think they have a valid reason to protest, but I don't agree with protesting during a time where we respect our country and those who have died for our freedom. I would much rather have them protest in an interview over the National Anthem.

  • I dont think there is a problem for them standing up for what they believe in but, I think they over react to some situations. Yes, as long as it does not hurt anyone and they aren't threatening anyone else's safety. Because in a interview questions about these type of topics dont usually show up.

  • I think this is a very efficient way for them to protest against racial injustice. African Americans make up such a big portion of the NFL and other professional sports which makes their actions so influential nowadays. I think its a valid reason to protest, but I believe this may be a little extreme. I know that they will continue to do it until things are changed though.

  • I think that it sends a very strong message to the people watching it happen, but I also consider that a good thing because they want to let people know that they are not happy with the way america has become. I think they do this to get reactions out of people to really think about what has become the United States. I could also see how people could get offended or upset with them but personally I think they have a right to their own opinion and actions. I Feel like they should do things in a different way, but I don't think anything at this point could be effective even during an interview.

    • I think that obviously what they are doing is effective, because if it wasn't then you wouldn't hear about it all the time, and it wouldn't even be an issue.

  • Not sure why they want to disrespect our country. What will kneeling do to fight racism? It doesn't really make sense. I agree that racism should be resolved. It is wrong but there are better ways to handle it. Doing it in an interview gives your own opinion and won't disrespect our flag.

    • I think they kneel together to show that it isn't just him that does it. I don't think that they should kneel but they could still stand and raise a fist together.
