News About The Paris Climate Deal

To give you a short overview about the original Paris climate deal in 2015; many leaders of countries all over the world met in Paris to debate how to tackle climate change in a single agreement but the USA pulled out and many others failed to comply.

Now, it is said that White House representatives announced that the US would either stay in the 2015 accord or review its terms. .

In June, President Trump said that there should be more fairness in the climate deal because about 6.5 million people would lose their jobs under its conditions.

Questions:

1.Do you think people losing their jobs is more important than the need to cut greenhouse gas emissions?

2.Are you happy you are not in the position to have to make decision for an entire country?

My answers:

1.In my opinion it is more important to help the whole world instead of caring about those people who would lose their jobs. Of course, it is sad and hard to imagine how it would feel to be one of those people but we should work harder to control climate change.

2.I think that it must be very hard to make decisions which impact a country (or even the world) and especially in this case I am very happy I’m not the president.

  • Great job Hannah!

  • I feel as though if that is what helps the US the most than that's what we should do. Yes, there is a lot of pressure on that posistion.

  • I know a lot of scientists believe in climate change but some still do not. Some scientists argue that the earth has undergone many changes during its 4.6 billion years of existence so to say that humans are to blame for it changing is unrealistic. I honestly think that this argument is very valid. Until we know for absolute certainty that we are the primary cause for climate change, then I think it isn't worth people losing their jobs. I am glad I am not in charge of decisions for the country, but I wish we had a better leader and decision maker.

    • You brought up some great points that not everyone believes in climate change. I didn't even think about that when I was writing my reply earlier. It's hard to tell whether humans are the sole cause for climate change or not. I agree that because of the somewhat limited information we have now, this issue isn't worth that many people losing their jobs, which could have an affect on our economy.

  • Both of these things are important but taking these people's jobs away could destroy their lives and families. It would be very hard to make that decision because no matter what you choose someone is going to be upset with you.

  • 1. Honestly, I think that jobs are more important than the environment because what are people supposed to live off of if they don't have a job to support them. Yes, the environment is important, but I think if everyone in the U.S. would have a job that could help our society more. 2. Yes, if you know me you know that I am a very indecisive person so being in that position would be a very difficult job for me.

  • 1. I think that it is more important to help the whole world than people losing their jobs. We want to keep the world healthy so it stays around longer. Yes it would be sad and upsetting to the people that lost their jobs but I am sure they could find a more clean enviromental job.

    2. I am very glad that I don't have to make this decision for the whole world because that is a lot of pressure and when I have a lot of pressure on me then my anxiety starts acting up.

  • It's hard to decide if people losing their jobs is more important than then need to cut greenhouse gas emissions.  I think the best solution would be to find a way to cut greenhouse gas emissions without causing people to lose their jobs. Of course I am happy that I'm not in the position to have to make the decision for the entire country because I would probably make the wrong one.

  • I think that its sad that people are losing there job and its probably gonna be very difficult for them but I think the overall population is a little more important than people losing their jobs. I definitely would be devastated if I lost my job  but I think we should all try harder to stop or at least decrease climate change. I am very happy that I don't have to make the decision because that is a huge decision that I wouldn't be able to make especially because of everyone it involves.

  • I think losing a job is less important than helping the country, I would rather have a clean environment than not having a job. Yes, I think it would be a very difficult situation because no matter what they choose to do someone will always be upset.
