New Stupid CDL Training

The new requirements for getting your CDL require you to complete trained courses. The new courses are not cheap, in fact they are very expensive. Prior to February 2022, the requirements were a few paper tests, and a driving test in a commercial vehicle. The new requirements are going to affect the supply shortage and impact large trucking companies.

The new training can take anywhere from 3 weeks up to 6 months. On average it usually takes 7 weeks to complete the training. Most training cost $2,500-$8,500 whereas the old training all you had to pay was state fees. The new training also takes away the one on one with your instructor.

I feel the new training has advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are that we will have safer roads and safer truck drivers, but down the road it could really affect supply shortage. We are already in a shortage of truck drivers so the new requirements will not help. The disadvantages of the new requirements are that it is very costly and also very time consuming.

What is your opinion on the new requirements?

Do you think the new training will affect the supply shortage?

    • I somewhat agree. I feel like there are certain parts of the calss that are good for people who have never been around commercial vehicles before, but it shouldn't be that hard to get. I feel like you learn a lot more from experience than in a classroom. That is why a lot of Swift drivers tend to get in more accidents, they are young and new to trucking, but hopefully most of the time they learn from their mistakes and don't do the same thing again.

  • I think that it is really dumb to make it that stupidly expensive. alot of farm workers would get a CDL and only really use it during harvest. Now truckers are going to be in high demand and will maybe help with harvest instead of trucking long distances.

  • I think the New CDL training is really dumb and very costly. I admit that it keeps the bad drivers that don't know what they are doing off the road. But we are already running out of drivers and I agree that there will be a supply shortage. I think the training should not be so long because it's a very long time.

  • I am not in favor of the new CDL trainings, I personally think it's kind of dumb. There are always going to be crashes and accidents with truck drivers. It's a huge vehicle and you cannot see the whole way around the vehicle. I think it will help slow items down and there won't be amazon 2 day delivery anymore.

    • I agree that the delivery for online shopping will take longer

  • I think that the new requirements are dumb and they should go back to how they used to be because the price has gone up and it takes a lot longer which is dumb the dumb people that want to get it shoudn't get it like the foreign people and the people actually know what they're doing shouldn't have to take a class that long to get it.

    • I agree because the requirments have affected the prices and time in a negative way.

  • I think the requirements are stupid. I get it's a safety and training thing, but having to take 6 months of training will discourage people who want to drive trucks and could start pretty quickly. I think that 6 months is just too long and we'll have less drivers when there is already a shortage.

    • I agree becuase the shorage of truckers is already out of control.

  • I think that the new CDL requirements are dumb because having to take 6 months of training is going to turn people away, and we are already in a massive shortage of truck drivers. The new training is time consuming, costly, and I don't think it will make the roads that much safer.
