New Iranian President!

Hassan Rouhani, the replacement for the former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, took office in Iran about two weeks ago after Ahmadinejad reached his two-year term limit.

He says that he will try to improve foreign relations, so I hope that this will mean that we won't have to worry as much about Iran. I like the idea of Iran being less of a reason for us to worry. What do you think of the new president?

  • It's always good to have a fresh start in a country that isn't at it's best. Hopefully this new reign will have a positive impact.

    • Yes, this could end up like Germany after WWII, a much better country than it's been in the last couple decades. I want to see that happen. I think we still have to look out though, since this new president could be lying.

  • We can always hope that, but nothing will stop radically religious people from attacking people.

  • I think if he actually lives up to what he says we could possible become allies with Iran in the future. Then again it could just be a way to try and make us forget about Iran, so that they can attack us. However right now I think that it is a very good thing the Iran has a new president and I think they will benefit from it enormously.

    • I think so too. Iran could be a good ally, especially when they could have brilliant people who know what they're doing. As long as Rouhani doesn't attack us, we can try to help them. We just have to not make the same mistakes as last time we helped a Middle Eastern country, since now we're at war with them (Afghanistan).

  • That is great news, maybe the new president will get along with the United States better than Ahmadinejad. Hopefully he will improve the foreign relations. It would be great if we would get along with Iran and not have to worry about war. We will have to wait and see what happens.

    • I think that things will turn out better as long as Rouhani is smart and doesn't attack people who could probably easily ruin the country. The main thing I'd be worried about is Rouhani attacking something major as soon as he gains trust. Even though we could attack him, the damage would still have been done.

  • It will be good if the new president decides to be smart about having their nuclear weapons. If not it would be just can the last one, no good things would happen then. If he is smart he will understand the high tension from the United Nations.

    • It wouldn't be a good decision on Rouhani's part when if they attack any NATO countries (like the US and most of Europe) it'll just end with Iran getting completely destroyed by the 28 countries that make up NATO. It would just be a waste of all the lives lost in the attacks. The only thing an attack would cause is destruction, since it's hard to gain much when you're trying to win a 1-on-28 battle and you're the 1.

  • I think that if he is who he says he is and does what he says he is going to do by improving foreign relations it will be very good for all countries. It never hurts to be on good terms with another country.
