Omicron is the name of a new covid variant that emerged in the past week. it started in South Africa .even though there have been some variants to covid 19 this one seems to have people concerned. this new virus is spreading and rushing through countries at a fast rate many countries have already banned airport travel and closed their borders. even though there have not been any cases in the U.S the country is on high alert of this new virus.
Doctors are still working on finding the full symptoms and they barely differ from the ones of covid 19. as of now covid symptoms linked to the new omicron variant have been described as extremely mild by the South African doctors who first raised the alarm over the new strain. according to the world health organization, the new covid variant is likely to spread further and become a global risk.
The World health organization also said depending on these characteristics, there could be future surges of Covid-19, which could have severe consequences, depending on a number of factors including where surges may take place. a highly divergent variant with a high number of mutations some of which are concerning and may be associated with immune escape potential and higher transmissibility. The World Health Organization has said it will take weeks to understand how the variant may affect diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccines. Preliminary evidence suggests the strain has an increased risk of reinfection.
I think that doctors and specialists in this topic should do all they can to understand how this new variant works and warn people and governments to help prevent another world pandemic.

yes, I agree people who are often traveling inside and outside the country can be a problem depending on the places they have been for example south Africa where it started yeah depending on severe this new variant is it will determine the problem.
I don't think it is going to become a global pandemic. I feel like there are still many cases of Covid right now, but we are just not talking about it. I think people should just hear what the government says and do what they say.

It depends if the variant is airborne or can be transmitted zoonotically. It also depends if the symptoms this new variant causes are more deadly. Take for example the 1919 variant of influenza. This variant was so deadly that it killed more than double the amount of people that were killed in WW2. Is this new COVID variant that deadly? It depends, because now we are more aware of how to protect ourselves now that we have been through a pandemic.

I personally do not think that this new covid variant would become or cause another global pandemic. It may have some sort of impact or cause some problems later on or what is happening now but I think that if that happens people should just follow the rules and do what is best for overcoming it.
