The government is pushing to make animal cruelty a federal felony. A felony is a bad crime and since it is federal it is a law throughout the whole country. The house passed the law on October 22, and it was unanimous vote. Any one who breaks this law can be charged with up to seven years in prison and possibly be fined. The geovernment says this new law will fill the gaps in the current one which bans animal fighting and posting animal cruelty videos. The government also wants this law to be passed because they say people who hurt animals are more likely to hurt people.
