New African Bio fuel Found in Nuts

Croton, a tree nut found throughout Africa which used to be only used like firewood has now found a new use. Researchers in Africa have found a way to use these nuts and make cheap bio fuel that grows on trees. Croton's contain a high amount of oil and proteins for their small size and there are a lot of them just going to waste. An African based company has now begun harvesting these nuts much cheaper than how they used too. They haven't even needed to plant trees because they are so common.

1. Do you think it is a good use of time to get bio fuel from nuts?

2. How do you think this could affect the diesel and gas industry?

I think that it is really cool that we can make fuel to power things from nuts that grow on trees instead of burning fossil fuels. I think if people could plant plantation of these trees and use them to cheaply create fuel it would be cheaper and better for the environment.

  • Well done Sam!

  • I think that this is a really great idea. It would be a lot easier and cheaper to plant and grow trees to harvest fuel. I think that since these trees come in abundance and it is a lot healthier for the environment, this could take off and fuel would be cheaper.

    • I agree it would be better for the environment and would be cheaper and more reliable than other forms of fuel.

  • Bump

  • I think it could be a good way (even though it takes longer) to make a bio fuel especially if its cheaper! Instead of wasting them, they are being put to use. That's what the goal is-- to recycle items that would normally have one use and then be done with. I think that if this was to become as popular as diesel and gas that it become a competitor. I don't think it would significantly effect that industry though.

    • I agree because it is better to use things we can grow and control the supply. It would also be a much cheaper alternative to other types of fuel and bio fuels.

  • It may be a long process but if its a cheap way to make bio fuel then why not do it. Well its a nut so it will take a lot of them but I don't think t will have a big enough impact to effect the diesel and gas industry.

    • I think it would be more used in Africa so I agree it won't have much of an effect on diesel and gas because we can't grow many of these trees in the US.
