Recently, on September 9th, a movie was internationally released on Netflix called "Cuties." At first glance, this movie may seem to be a cute and inspiring film for young audiances, but as you take time to look into it, you may realize how AWFUL it really is. I have not personally seen the actual movie, but I watched a couple youtube vidoes that talked about it and showed some of the worst scenes in the film. The synopsis for "Cuties" on Netflix says, "Eleven-year-old Amy starts to rebel against her conservative family's traditions when she becomes fascinated with a free-spirited dance crew." Unless you knew what happened in this movie, that synopsis is very misleading. This is espceically misleading because the movie is rated TV-MA, meaning it is mature and for adult audiences, yet it only talks about an 11 year old girl dancing.
In the movie, there are many crude and mature scenes feauturing the young actresses, and some of the scenes even include dialoge and inuendos that I don't think I could even mention because they're not school appropiate. Many times, the camera focuses on the young girls' bodies in weirdly gross ways, and they say things you would never imagine an 11-year old girl saying. In one of by far the WORST scenes in the whole movie, if you could even begin to rank them, shows one of the girls taking pictures of herself nude and posting it online. The camera does not show her body, but It's still disgusting. If you want to see some of the terrible scenes to fully understand how bad this movie is, you can search "Cuties" on youtube, but I'm not going to promote the things that take place in the movie.
This movie sparked huge outrage to the world. Tons of people have been reaching out to Netflix demanding that "Cuties" is taken off. I have even seen people cancel their Netflix subscriptions out of protest. I, and many other people, think this movie is disgusting and is endangering to young girls. This movie makes it easy for child predators to thrive, and it encourages children to say and do very sexual things. Lots of people think some of the scenes shouldn't even be legally allowed in the film because nearly all of the cast is underage.
Have you seen the movie? Do you think it should be taken off Netflix?

Great topic choice, great summary and great job replying to people!
I remember when I first saw this on snapchat, someone defending it under "female power ''. female power is not exploiting and sexualizing children who can not legally consent, and are not fully mentally developed to understand what they were in. the children in this movie deserve justice and for the movie to be taken down, it's disgusting and dehumanizing.
I agree, I would feel so uncomfortable as an adult looking back on myself if I were one of those girls. I feel bad that this is what they are taught and participating in. I think they deserve justice too. I hope the movie is taken down for their sake and for other children's sakes.
I personally have not seen the movie but it sounds very disgusting. The fact that people even think to make this a movie is very sad and disgusting. I might understand if it was meant to teach but it still seems very disgusting and against the law. 11 is just do young for some of the things you meantioned.
I haven't seen the movie, but I have heard of it and from what I've heard this movie is truly digusting and extremely inappropiate. I think this movie should be taken off Netflix due to it being very inappropiate, focusing in on the young girls' bodies in gross ways, and having an 11 year old girl post a nude online. I feel like this would show young children that it's alright to send or post nudes online when it isn't and it can destroy your life. It can also be very dangerous sending or posting a nude online due to human trafficing, and child predators and many other things. This movie should be taken down from Netflix right away and the director of the movie should have some kind of law suit or something.
The director claims that the porpous of the movie was to oppose child exploitation, but you don't exploit children in order to take a stand against child exploitation. I haven't seen it and don't plan to watch it either, but if it is really as bad as people say... it should be taken off Netflix.
Yeah, I had not heard about the mvies supposive intentions when I made this, but that fact doesn't change my opinion now. If that is what they were trying to achieve, they excecuted it poorly. It's important for movies to talk about children expoltion, but the movie shouldn't be so wrong while doing it.
I have not seen the movie but I have heard about it and the outrage it has caused. From what I have heard it sounds like a horrible movie. I dont understand how and why Netflix is promoting this move when it has very disturbing sences of underaged girls. I think Nextflix needs to romove this as soon as possible and start watching/know more about everything before they are putting on there streaming site for anyone to watch.
I agree with you. I'm glad this movie caught so much attention the way it did. I think because of the backlash, more people are thinking about child exploition and fetishization. It's good for people to be educated about things like that sor the safety of children.
I have not seen the movie, but I have heard of it. I truly do not understand how people are ok with filming movies like this, or how Netflix can even let it be on their website. I think it is disgusting and vile to have 11 year olds be acting in this movie. Already from the picture I can only guess how horrible it is. I think Netflix really needs to watch the movies first before they release them.
