Nepal Earthquake

A 7.8 magnitude hits the country of Nepal, where rescuers try to reach the small villages to help save the people that were affected. The death toll so far has reached about 3700 people, however it is supposed to rise as the rescuers reach the smaller villages of the country. Some of the villages are on the mountainside of Mount Everest, and will require helicopter evacs. Many families slept outside in fear that they might be hurt by the aftershocks that come with earthquakes. The earthquake also killed 18 people due to an avalanche caused by the earthquake. Officials at a district near Mount Everest said that over 70% of all the houses are destroyed and they also say that about 230 people have died in their district. It is also reported that India has suffered about 61 deaths and China reports around 20 deaths in Tibet.

What should the US and the United Nations do to help?

What would you do if you were hiking on Mount Everest and an earthquake struck?

  • Well done!

  • There's no doubt that the US and UN will fund rescues, supplies, and many other things to get the country back on its feet. I wouldn't be hiking on Mount Everest.

  • I think that the United Nations should send as much help as possible in a time like this. They should bring a lot of medical supplies considering there have been many injuries due to the earthquake. They should also start thinking about rebuilding homes for the thousands of people who have lost theirs.

  • Obviously we've had situations like this in the past such as the earthquake in hati. Honestly the best thing for everyone to do in this situation is send as much help as possible. If this had affected me personally obviously i would a been scared and wanted help.

  • I think that the US and United Nations should send financial help for the clean up and the replacement of basic seriously needed supplies. I have obviously never actually been present for an earthquake or an avalanche anywhere, so I have no clue what I would do! I would just be terrified and wait for anything to happen or for it to end.

  • I think that we should send doctors and medical supplies over there to help them and food and water for them

  • I think they should send help, rescuers and food at first and then help rebuild the country. Usually they leave soon after the earthquake but I think they should stay longer than what they usually do.

  • They should send money and supplies to help with the aid of rescuing and continue on of peoples lives. I would try and find a place to stay and try to wait it out.

  • I think that the United Nations should help give aid to Nepal and help rebuild the country. I would probably die because there is no where to go without being killed by the avalanche.

    • That's true. The only way to survive a avalanche is probably just luck. If the UN helps they should probably help soon.
