Myanmar Clashes Between Government and People

Myanmar, a mainly Buddhist country, has been having disputes between the people of the country and the overruling government. The fighting is assumed to be caused partly by differences in religion because six confirmed Hindu civilians have been killed. The number of total people killed has been confirmed at 96, but it is suspected that many more have been attacked or killed. The government claims to be attempting to restore peace, but is doing an iffy job on it. Many bystanders of the attacks have witnessed gunshots being fired first from government officials and not only from insurgent attackers. ARSA has also accused Myanmar's army of using civilians as human shields.

Have you heard of the problems in Myanmar? Do you believe it is a concern to the United States?

Can the government of Myanmar be trusted?

Before I read this article, I did not know the full story behind the attacks. I wasn't even aware of the fact that Myanmar is suffering. I don't believe the fighting is a concern of the U.S. at all, though. I also can plainly see that the citizens of Myanmar are scared of their government and that is proof enough to me to know that the government is to blame for the violence.

  • Well done Maeve!

  • No, I haven't heard of the problems in Myanmar until now. And no, I don't think that it is a concern to the U.S., but if there are people who need to flee then I hope that they will be allowed to stay.

I'm not sure if the government of Myanmar can be trusted, but I think that we should still try to trust them, because if we meet them with distrust I don't think that it will lead to something good.

  • I have not heard of any of these problems in Myanmar, but I do not think that this will be a concern to the United States as long as we don't start an attack or they don't either. I think that the government should try to figure out a compromise for their country here as many people are probably very scared. They need to have a little bit of a safer protection system.

  • I have not heard about problems in Myanmar until reading this. I don't believe this is a problem for the United States since we haven't jeopardized them or their government. Myanmar government should be at least cautious of what they're doing so the people in the country don't go against them or start a fight.

  • I hadn't heard anything about this issue. I have heard about things like this happening before. There's only so much a government can do to control the population. If the government is killing people for their religion, that's a problem. I think they need to do more to protect the people of their country.

  • I have not heard of the previous conflicts in Myanmar. Though it would be nice for the government to help them.. Will they? I think the government needs to enforce their power, but the government could have been the cause of the conflicts. Maybe the U.S should help, but I'm sure we don't think it is that big of a deal.

    • I agree with you. At this point their government is selfish and is only making decisions to benefit themselves. Our government is the same, but it makes decisions for the U.S. as a whole and I don't think they are too worried about Myanmar.

  • No I had not heard about this  until today. I do believe it is a concern to the U.S. because this means we could have even more refuges coming and going between countries. I believe the government can be trusted i just think they need more man power and more discipline to properly handle these situations.

  • I agree I had no idea about this before you posted this. I don't think that this issue will bring problems to the US. Yes i agree I would be scared of the their government because they're almost just being by standers just watching everything unfold.

    • As much as I would like the U.S. to help, I agree that it is not really a problem. Their government is just watching, they aren't helping at all. At this point the citizens should start searching for help in other places.
