Mount Everest may have shrunk

Back in 2015 the  earth quake in Nepal may have caused The worlds tallest mountain to shrink. The last time they have measured the mountain was back in 1955 by the Indian government. they want to send a group of 30 people up there to take the measurement will only 2 days but to prepare for this it may take up to 6 months. The hard part is not the measurement but its to get the permission to actually take the measurement.

How do you think the earth quake with affect the height of the mountain.

Would ever climb the mountain?

I think that the eath quake just moved

The journey to the summit of Mount Everest is a challenge an increasing number have taken on since the summit was first reached in in 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Until the late 1970s, only a handful of climbers per year reached the summit. By 2012 that number rose to more than 500.

  • Overall, your summary is quite brief and you only commented twice. -5 late

  • I do believe the earth quake could have effected the height because not only are you moving the plates below it but also the vibrations could have shaken boulders off the mountain and though it wouldn't be a drastic change there could still be one. Also I would probably climb it because it would be a good experience though it might be stressful doing it.

  • I think that the earthquake would affect the height of the Mountain by moving the plate tectonics below it and making it not as tall. And if I had the opportunity to climb Mount Everest I would most likely take it, although it would be a extremely dangerous expedition so I would definitely have to train and prepare for it.

  • I think that it may have shifted a tiny bit but probably didn't actually shrink. I don't think I would ever probably hike the mountain because of how dangerous it is and how long it would take. I think its a lot funner to go on hiking trips where you can enjoy it with your family or friends and that would be hard for this one.

  • I think if the earthquake moved the mountain at all, it probably wasn't by much. I would love to climb a mountain! The closest that I've ever come to climbing one was when I went to Colorado and hiked up Clarke's Peak at 13000 ft elevation.

  • I don't really know how the quake affected the height of the mountain. Im sure its possible but from my education standpoint, I haven't the slightest idea. I think it would be a great experience to climb the mountain, sure it is dangerous, but being on top of the tallest mountain in the world would be a great feeling.

  • To measure this mountain is very risky. I think with all the technology today we should put a device on the highest point that could measure how high it is. Or a satellite. I do think that the earthquake could have moved the mountain but not by much.

  • It could be very possible that the mountain shrunk. My question is how would you even measure a mountain of that size?! I can see why they would have a hard time to get permission to measure it though since it is technically someone else's land. I would personally love to climb it, but I have a feeling that I wouldn't be able to do it because of the altitude, oxygen, etc.

  • It could be possible to have shrunk. I mean multiple things could explain why it's shorter. Indian government might have rounded up, they could have a different measurement system, natural causes causing the rocks to fall, or the earth quake could have shrunk it. I don't know if I would ever climb the mountain I would probably be too scared but I think that would be very fun and a cool experience.

  • I don't think it would shrink it more likely just shift it because for it to shrink some of the rock would have to fall or compress and an earthquake has a slim chance of doing that. Also Mountains grow over an inch per year so since 1955 I bet it still will have grown even if the earthquake caused a small change.
