Mother Teresa Declared A Saint

Mother Teresa, a Catholic nun who spent most of her life help the poor, has been declared a saint this Sunday morning. Around 11 AM in Vatican City, Pope Francis canonized her. Meaning, to officially declare (a dead person) to be a saint. Pope Francis went on to tell how she was a great women, saying "May she be your model of holiness." Mother Teresa devoted her life to helping the India population that was less fortunate. She received a nickname " Saint of The Gutters". She is considered one of the most giving and helpful people to live, she gave 69 years of service to the poor.

Mother Teresa was not canonized until 19 year after her, why do you think they waited so long?

Why would Mother Teresa mainly help people from India?

I think Mother Teresa's canonizing waited so long because this was important, and they wanted to do it very big. So not only did they have Pope Francis be there and talk but they did it in front of a very big crowd. Also I believe she helped India out more because this is where she is from.

  • Good story! There are a few errors in your summary and you only commented once.

  • I think that it took so long is because they had too think a lot about it and make a great decision before canonizing her. I think she helped people from India mainly because she is from India and she wanted to give back to her community.

  • It usually takes a long time for someone to be canonized. I think it took a while because canonizing someone is very important and the process shouldn't be rushed. While Mother Teresa did many great things and no doubt deserves to be called a saint, the process can't be rushed for anyone. I'm just glad that she was recognized as the Saint she is. I think she helped people in India because that's where she lived and because a lot of people in India do need the help she offered.

  • Nineteen years, surprisingly, is a relatively short amount of time after ones death to be canonized. Many Saints weren't canonized until decades, or even centuries after their passing. After the mandatory five years waiting period, many activist began pushing for the canonization of Mother Teresa.

I think that Saint Teresa probably felt most at-home in India and knew that that is where God had called her to help.

  • Most Saint's take a very long time to be canonized. I think it takes so long because it is a very long important process. She probably helped India more because she lived there.

    • I agree, I also believe that Mother Teresa wanted to help people from india because she is from there
