Several Motel 6 hotels in Washington states gave away private information about their customers to ICE, and are now faced with a lawsuit of $12 million. Throughout 2015 and 2017, seven Motel 6 hotels shared between 80,000 people's information to ICE. The majority of the peoples names given out were Latino or Hispanic sounding names. And, because of what they did many people were then deported and families were seperated. It also violated the rights and privacy of maany civilians. The attorneys office said that the $12 million would go to the damages and suffering the families had. They then said that they would better enforce the privacy of their customers but a while ago they found out that two Motel 6's in Arizona gave out information to ICE.

Question One:

Q: Do you think that states should have their own punishments for crimes like these?

A: Well I think that if any company would do something like that they should take down whatever the company may be.

Question Two:

Q: What could have been the reason the people gave out their information in the first place? And what do you think they were thinking?

A: Well it could be that they were afraid something may happen to them if they wouldnt give out the information. But, it could also be that maybe they wanted ICE to get the poor people. What I dont get is how someone could have the heart to do something like that in the first place when they know they would get seperated from their family.

  • Well done Leah!

  • I think that privacy is a matter to the state and they should have their own laws against it so they can enforce it their own way. People selling information to big companies about like and dislikes, ICE to deport illegals. that these illegals are bad and are going to ruin our country.

  • I don't think a specific punishment should be placed, but there should totally be some privacy regulations. Most of the families that were separated did nothing wrong so i think it is fair to charge the Motel chain a good chunk of money. Many reasons could be portrayed, but racism has a lot to do with it too.

    • Do you think that customers would still trust this hotel chain?

  • Well I think that if any company would do something like that they should take down whatever the company may be and they were probably afraid something may happen to them if they wouldn't give out the information. But, it could also be that maybe they wanted ICE to get the poor people.

    • Do you think that because of what the motels did, they will still have a good reputation?

  • I think the whole company should be shutdown becuase it's happening in one state why wouldn't it happen in other states in the same company. I think the person was thinking they could get something out of selling their information and they might not have liked that they were illegal immagrants.

    • Do you think it was happening in other states? Or do you think the owner of the chain made them do it?

  • 1.) I don't think that states should be able to enforce their own punishments for crimes like this because they are giving away private information which is violating our constitution.

2.) The people could have given out their customers information because they didn't want illegal immegrants inside their hotels but I still believe that it is extremely wrong to seperate families for that reason.

    • What do you think should happen to the chain? Or if anything should happen at all
