Momma Uganda

Ugandan Mariam Nabatanzi or "Mamma Uganda" at the age of 12  was sold to get married and have childern. She gave birth at the age of 40 to her kids all with the same man. Momma Uganda first gave birth in December in the year of 2016. She has a total of 44 kids but 6 of them died.

She gave birth to 16 girls and 22 boys. She struggles to support all of her kids. The man she had her kids with took all of her money and left her to be a single mother. She raised her kids alone.

Momma Uganda is the most fertile woman on earth. She went to the doctor. At the doctor he said that she has to keep having childeren. Because if she doesn't she could have really bad health issues. So she continues to have childern.

How would you feel giving birth to this many kids?

Do you think it was right for the father to take all the money and leave her alone with the kids?

Would you be mad if your doctor told you had to keep having kids to live?

How would you feel being sold at a young age to get married?

  • Mariah,

Your topic is interesting but your summary is quite brief and you should have continued replying to student comments throughout the entire week.

  • I feel that if I would have to conceive and birth that many children that my body would feel run down. It honestly sounds miserable. I think that she was sold was awful and the fact that her husband took all her money and left the kids with her. If I was told I had to keep having kids to live I would be shocked.

  • I think it is ridiculous that she was first sold into marriage, then had 44 kids, and finally had her husband, who she was sold to, leave her and take her money along with him. I also don't understand how it's dangerous for her health to stop giving birth, and if I was in her situation I wouldn't continue to deliver babies.

  • It's pretty crazy that this mother had 44 kids. It almost seems like there wouldn't be enough time in life to take care of them, let alone go through pregnancies with all of them. I think it is sick that the father would leave her even if life was taking a turn on him. If he doesn't have beleifs, then I guess I wouldn't expect much more from him.

  • I would hate it because you must be rich to feed all these kids and give them clothes and all this stuff. I think it was not the right thing to leave them but I kind of can understand him. As a doctor I wouldn't be mad because if you deliver her babies or others it doesn't matter.

  • I do not think it was right for the father to leave her with no money or resources. With that many kids, it isn't cheap to support a family, so he should be forced to help her out by at least giving her money to help support her children. Getting sold at such a young age is not right in any circumstances.

  • I would not like to give birth to that many kids. I think it would be horrible to be pregnant that many times and go through the whole process for that many years. I think what the father did was really bad and he shouldn't have left her in those conditions. I think getting sold as such a young age it's not the correct thing.

  • I think that 44 kids are way too much to handle.  I do not think the father did the right thing by leaving all of them with no help or money.  I would think having that many kids would affect your health in a negative way, not a positive way. I would not like being sold for marriage because that is not the right thing to do.

  • I would not like giving birth to 44 kids. I also do not think it was right for the dad to take all of the money and leave her alone with the kids, it takes a lot of money to clothe and feed all of them. I would be very unhappy if I were to be sold to get married at any age because I don't think it's right.

  • I would hate having to take care of so many kids. I don't think it was right for the father to take all the money and leave her with such a big responsibility. I think I'd be extremely upset about being sold into marriage at such a young age, it's crazy to me that that's considered normal in some parts of the world.
