The people of Baltimore have been rioting because of the death of Freddie Gray. Toya Graham's son, Micheal Singleton was among those protesters. What Micheal did not know was that while he was protesting his mother was on her way to find him. When Toya arrived she spotted her son in sweatpants with a brick in his hand. Micheal and his mother made eye contact but he did not think that she was there so he made nothing out of it. Until he heard Toya's voice telling him to put the brick down. Then she smacked him multiple times and took him home, she said that she only did it because she cared for him. I think that the mother did the right thing by disciplining her son in front of other people.

What would you have done if you were the mother?
Why do you think Micheal went behind his mom's back to protest?

Great job!
I would have joined the protest if i was his mom. I think he went behind her back to stand up for what he believes in.
Micheal wanted to protest, but he knew that his mother wouldn't be okay with that, so he when behind his mother's back. But if your going to protest I would say don't hide behind a mask; show who you are. I would have done the same thing if I was his mother.
I would have done everything she did but hit him. He knew she would like it but wanted to protest anyway.
If I were his mother, I wouldn't have made the scolding so public. Even if what he was doing was bad, this still made major news and will be embarrassing for the whole family. I think he went behind his mothers back because he was standing up for what he believes in. That's the thought of most rioters.
If I were the parent of that kid I would have probably done the same thing just not so publicly. I think its terrible that Freddy Gray died but I think the protests are for to extreme and need to stop. I think the only reason his mother smack him was because he went to the riots without her permission and tried to make sure she didn't find out.
Maybe that was the only way to get her point across, to embarrass him in front of everyone.
She was on the right path, telling her son to quit what he was doing; but I'm not a fan of smacking him in-front of all those people. It doesn't take much effort to put breathe into telling them to stop, instead of getting physical. It could have angered him even more and someone could have gotten hurt. I believe he went behind his mother's back because he either knew she would disapprove, or he did not want to bring shame upon her for his protests.
I think that was the only way she gets him to listen, because he didnt listen when she told him not to go protest.
I think that the mother did the right thing by disciplining her son because that's just part of being a parent. It's kind of ridiculous that a mother can't even discipline her child in public without being looked at by someone who abuses her child. Every parent has the right to raise their child they want to.
