Missing Teenager Alexis Murphy

Having not seen or heard from her daughter in two weeks, Alexis Murphy’s mother says “A mother would know if her daughter is really gone, but I still have hope.”

Imagine if you were Alexis Murphy’s parents, would you do your own looking around at her favorite stores, food restaurants, or anywhere else to find her?

Alexis Murphy was last seen at a gas station earlier this month; police have arrested the suspect in her abduction. Murphy’s disappearance set off a search that extended 30 miles outside Lovington, Virginia. Involving helicopters, search parties with canines units, Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police and FBI. Alexis left Shipman, Virginia home to visit Lynchburg on August 3rd; police have the surveillance showing her at Lovington gas station. Randy Taylor, 48, was seen on video and was arrested because they found one of Alexis’ hairs in his camper.

Taylor was the girl the night she disappeared, said the lawyer. They were both parked at the gas pumps, and Alexis had made a reference to smoking marijuana, Hallahan said. Taylor told her he’d like some. So she told him that she knew a guy, so they rode up there in both of their cars where Taylor bought some.

If a stranger, like Taylor, said that he/she wanted to buy something you bring up in a conversation would you lead them to that place or just finish what you are doing and go away? And why?

Alexis was last seen wearing a pink blouse, spandex pants and brown boots and according to WRC she was carrying a gray purse. They had found her Nissan Maxima car in the parking lot of a movie theater near the town of Charlottesville.

“She was just looking forward to everything, excited about everything and it just seemed completely out of character for her.” Taylor told the station.

  • Yeah, and I think that if Alexis was to never come back then they would suspect her dead.

    • True, but she could come back anyday.

  • Did the person distributing the drugs see the abduction occur? Is it possible that Alexis found a way to escape before anything happened? I wonder if the camper was near other people, but when they saw it thought nothing of it?

    • I think that the person doing the drugs may have told the cops(or who ever was there) who the male with her was, but if not then im guessing it didnt happen when they were around him. Im not sure if she found a way to escape or not, if she did then im guessin that shes trying to find her way home. If the camper was around other people im sure that they thought something of it but they had to come back out of the camper and then they probably thought everything was alright by then.

  • How did something like this happen, I mean there had to be cameras around or something that would help right?

    • I think that there might have been cameras but im not sure because if the owner of the gas station or one of the employees looked over the footage that night they would have seen that Alexis and Taylor left together and if the news told us she was missing then that person working at the gas station could have turned in the footage to the police.

  • I think that Alexis did make a mistake by going with or leading someone she didn't know somewhere. It just goes back to show how true the statement, "stranger danger" really is. Hopefully they keep searching and finding more information about Alexis' disappearance.

    • I think that if she never lead him to that place that she probably would have never disappeared in the first place.

  • This is so sad. In a little town like this we just don't see things like this happening, or expect them to happen to us. Because they don't very much. I feel like her mother wants to believe she isn't gone and so she says she would be able to feel it but its not likely Alexis is still around as sad as it is to say.

    • Yea, and I believe that if Alexis was dead that her mother could tell
