Missing People

Have you heard about Gabrielle Petetio? Of course, you have she was all over the news just a few weeks ago. In case you didn't know she was a social media influencer who was murdered and left in a national park. Everyone decided to try and hunt down her fiance Brian for weeks on end. But what about all of the other people that die or go missing. Who spent time looking for them till they are found.

People go missing every day but nobody thinks about going out and looking for them because they aren't famous or rich. 540,000 people go missing every year and only 98% of them are found. That means the 10,800 wont get found. The first 72 hours are the most important. After that people start to stop looking. Although people that go missing in smaller cities and towns might be searched for a long time, people in big cities can't spare resources because of the amount of cases they have to handle every day.

Would you be ok with the fact that people might just give up hope after a few days or weeks of being lost even though you might still be alive. I certainly would not be ok with that. People should be searched for for more than the first 72 hours of being missing.

Do you think that people should be searched for longer?

  • Good topic choice Thomas! Your summary is just too broef to do this topic justice. Do more research and include examples. Also be sure to include your sources. Also be sure to reply more frequently.

  • I think missing people should be searched for longer than 72 hours, 72 hours just seems too short to look for a missing person, especially if they are still alive. I think the search time for a missing person should be more than 72 hours because if the person is still alive they could get anywhere in that 72-hour time frame, but if the time frame was longer the news of that missing person could spread everywhere and more people could help search for the missing person.

  • Personally I think that people should still be on the look out for missing people for longer then 72 hours because 3 days is just such a short amount of time to really find someone. Especially when we have few details.

  • I think that people should be longer searched like for a week because if you don't find them after a week they might be gone and in different cities, countries, dead or something else. But i can understand that people who are not related with the missing person don't want to waste their time to search the person.

    • I agree that people should be searched for longer. and I agree that people have less motivation.

  • I think that people should be searched longer because after 72 hours a person could be still alive you just don't know unless you look. I feel like the only reason Gabby was found was that the word got out fast and it was very sus so many people went out and looked.

  • I do agree with what you are saying and all but some part of the U.S. say that someone has to be "missing" for 24 hours before the cops will do something to help. I think that within those 24 hours people need to do somethings before someone get hurt or ends up dead. Once you notice that a friend or family member is missing you should start looking and not stop until you find something to help find that person.

    • I think that more should be done within the first 24 hours although they made the rule so that people could have time to return if they ran away or something so that there would be fewer false cases.

  • I think that people should be looked for longer, but not an extremely long time. You don't know if they are still alive or not and at some point you just have to move on. There isn't really a good stopping point, but there has to be a stopping point. Maybe after a week or so.

  • I think that people should eb searched for longer like a week because that is a reasonable time however at somepoint you have to accept that they wont be found. People can survive on their own for quite some time before they die in the wilderness or run out of food.
