January 15, 2014, marked the 5th year since the historic "Miracle on the Hudson". The captain of US Airways Flight 1549, Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger III, said, "I'm filled with joy and gratitude about what was able to be accomplished by so many five years ago today and the fact that all 155 passengers and crew are here today because of it."
On January 15, 2009, the flight had just taken off from LaGuardia Airport in New York when a flock of geese disabled the engines. After the incident, Captain Sully landed the aircraft on the Hudson River. All 155 passengers and crew members were safely rescued by ferries.
Captain Sully and about 6 passengers went to a ferry terminal and thanked members of the various crews taht saved them that day. They then boarded a ferry and went out to the site of the historic lading and raised a toast.
Not only did the landing spark fame for Captain Sully and numerous passengers and crew members, it also helped raise awareness of bird strikes. I think this was a truly wonderful historic event. I, too, would call it a miracle.
What do you think you would have done if you were on that flight?
Would you call this a "miracle"?

I think it would be very scary if I was on that flight. it would have been really scary not knowing what was going on and then seeing the water meet you at the windows would just be horible. I don't know what i would have done
This is amazing, they were so lucky to all survive. it definitely was a miracle, im sure that everyone who was on the flight has a new look on life
I can't believe this was 5 years ago already. I remember seeing it all over the news like it was yesterday. I think i would have tried to do the same thing he did but would probably fail miserably on the basis that i cant fly...
I think it would be very scary if I was on that flight. Not knowing what was going on and then seeing the water rush up to meet you at the windows would just be horrifying. I don't know if I would really call it a miracle, but a very great act of sophistication that lead to saving many lives.
Yes, I think it was a miracle. These people were all very lucky. The captains were obviously very skilled and thought quickly about how to land the plane safely. This truly is amazing.
Personally, I would freak out and try to calm myself but it may not work. It truly is amazing that all passengers were able to survive. I think it's great that some of the passengers and Captain Sully went to thank the people who helped rescue them.
I personally think it was a fate. They were so lucky to survive. If I was one of those passengers, I would be so thankful to be alive. I think the captains of the plane was supposed to be able to save everyone and become famous.
