Michael Phelps suspended

About a week ago 29 year old Olympic Champion swimmer  Michael Phelps, was arrested for a DUI and got suspended for six months. He will not be able to compete again until April 6th, 2015 and will withdraw from the 2015 championship team. This isn't his first DUI he had, he got one when he was 19  back in 2004. Phelps pleaded guilty to the charges, and he has avoided the consequences. A judge waived the conviction, which means Phelps faces the same penalties a first-time offender would. If Phelps was convicted, he would face up to one year in jail, $1,000 fine, and lose his licenses for 6 months.

I think he should have more consequences and face the charges he should of actually had which were one year in jail, $1,000 fine, and lose his licenses for a year.

Question- Do you think he should face the consequences as a 1st time offender or a 2nd time offender? Explain why?

  • Good but you could have replied a few more times.

  • That's a good question. I would say make him pay the consequences. If you let him off easy now, he will think that it would be ok to do it again and again. You have to learn sometime so might as well punish him early when the penalty isn't as severe as it would be for a 3rd or 4th offender. He needs to learn.

  • I feel he should get the same punishment of a 2nd time offender and face the consequences of his actions.

  • Since it was his second time he should be charged with heavy consequences than the ones he got since this is his second offence.

  • I think he should face the 2nd time offence because it was his second time. The only reason he got the first offence is because he is famous and they let him off.

  • I think he should face 2nd offender because if it was anyone else that wasn't a celebrity unlike him then there wouldn't even be question. Celebrities get away with alot.

  • He was a second-time offender, so he should be charged as such. Nobody likes it when famous people get off easily on situations like these when any normal civilian would be given full punishment, as well as the fact that it's not fair to be able to use your fame as an advantage and being able to behave like, for lack of a better term, a complete idiot with few consequences.

  • I think 2nd time offender, because he has already got caught once and he obviously didn't get the momo to stop. His charges should have been worse.

  • I think when you have so much going for you you shouldn't put yourself in that situation. I think what he was punished with is good for him and hopefully he learns.

    • Ya if you're doing good at a sport why ruin it for something stupid
