Miami Man Shot By Police

A man in Miami, was walking around town with a toy gun. People reported he was pointing it at a dog and other incidents. The cops reached him and shots were fired. He was taken to a hospital and was later pronounced dead. The man was 56 year old Ernest Vassel. His sister reported that there was no reason to kill him for carrying a toy gun. Comments?

  • They didn't have to kill him, they could have shot him somewhere else that he would be wounded but no dead. But why would a 56 year old guy carry a toy gun anyways? Isnt that just little kids?
  • Why kill him? I mean its a toy gun for crying out loud. you could of just had the police look at it before deciding to kill him.
  • does his family get to sue the police or anything for killing there son for no reason? it was just a toy gun. why would the police kill him with out even looking at the gun to relize it is not even a real gun?

  • I think it's a bit strange that a 56 year old man was carrying around a toy again, but then again he wasn't really doing anything wrong? Sounds like a pretty weird incident to me.
  • If he was 56 years old he should know better to carry around a toy gun and point it at things, maybe he has a brain disorder that causes him not to think normaly. How were the cops suposed to know it wasnt real? They were just doing there job.  but they should have tried difffernt ways like talking to him instead of just shooting at him.
  • there was no reason to kill the man they should have tried to talk to him or arrested him then just shooting him on the spot. Though the man should not have been pointing the fake gun at animals.
  • wellll..even though he was stupid enough to carry around a toy gun like that, i think it is sad he was killed. i understand that the cops didn't know what was going on or what he was doing, but this might have been taken too far..
  • It reminds me of the book, The Outsiders. I don't think the officers should've shot the man but they thought that their safety was in danger and so it was self defense. And as a police officer, they are their to protect people and they might have thought it was a real gun (as long as it looked real) thus giving them good reason to shoot. Not saying I like that they did it, but I guess it's understandable and I'm sure the policemen involved feel guilt about it.
  • i think that they  should have talked to him and if he didnt want to talk take him to jail there was no reason they shot him.
  • They didn't need to kill him, but they didn't know that it was a fake gun. They were just doing their job and protecting people.
