Carmelo Anthony addressed reporters after his Thunder team lost to the Jazz and was eliminated from the NBA playoffs. Reporters asked if he was willing to give up a starting role and come off the bench next season. Carmelo shut that down right away and said "I'm not sacrificing no bench role". Carmelo has started for nearly his entire career, but last season he seemed to struggle more in the starting role. He's been an NBA all-star for most of his career as well. He claims that giving up his starting job would be a slap in the face to him because he says he's still plenty capable of doing so. However, this season he averaged a career low of 16 points, 40 percent from the field, and just 35 percent from three point range. Not only did he average career lows, he also was an obvious defensive liability, especially in the pick and roll. During the playoffs while Carmelo was on the floor, the Jazz outscored the Thunder by 14.5 points per every 100 possessions. When he was off the floor, the Thunder outscored the Jazz by 13.5 points per every 100 possessions. The Thunder also had a great defensive rating of 98.2 with Carmelo off the court.

1) Do you think that Carmelo should come off the bench next season, or do you think he'll return to his old self next season?
I think that Carmelo should come off the bench because he played bad this season, and I don't think he'll be as good as he used to be because he's nearing the end of his career.
2) If you were the coach what would you do with Carmelo, keep him on the team or find a new team for him to play on?
I would give him the option of coming off the bench and if he refused I would find a new home for him or make him a free agent.

Well done Blake!
I think that if Carmelo comes off the bench he wont like and then will start giving problems to the team because of his role. For the most part Melo is clutch in key moments but it depends on how he plays the next season.
I think he should because some people think that they are really good at something and really they are not, but they used to be and still think they are as good as when they were younger. Find a new team for him to play, get money, and then buy a better player to get.
I think Carmelo will come off the bench but just because he is not doing so great doesn't mean that he is going to get fired. Maybe he was having bad days. But if he had a worse season and didn't see any improvements then I would talk to him and he is off the team.
I think he will come off the bench. In pro sports like these one bad game could get you off the team, and he has had a bad season. It is very likely that Carmelo will not be playing next season.
I would probably give him one more year. If he wasn't practicing as well he definitely would not be a starter, and if he continued to go downhill I would cut him off my team.
I disagree about him getting fired after one bad game. Even the best players such as LeBron, Steph, Russ Westbrook, Anthony Davis, etc... all have their fair share of bad games, but they are at least consistently good except for a handful of games. Even in their worst games though they are still able to make a big impact, while Carmelo was just not making as big of an impact this season and he still thought of himself as an All-star caliber player.
unless something else has happned to carmelo off the feild than I would have to assume it's old age making him weak and would stop Relying on him to much. I would probably get some one younger who was still in their prime.
I think that everyone can have a bad season and that he might come back next year but you never know until you find out. I would ask him to come back next year and show them that he does care and show him up.
I know he won't retire next season, but it's his attitude and older age and lack of mobility that is causing his struggles on the court. He hasn't been a dominant force in the NBA for a while and now there are rookies that are outscoring him and have had a bigger impact on the court than he has in the past few years.
I think he should come off the bench next season because of his bad season. If I were his coach I would put him on another team because of his bad season and attitude.
