Maui-Bound Stowaway

A 15 year old boy boy from Santa Clara got a free trip to Hawaii. During the darkness of the early hours, a young teenager climbed over a six foot fence and got into the wheel well of a Boeing 767. The 2,350 mile journey took five and a half hours to complete, while in the air at an altitude of 38,000 feet. While you are up that high, you are only getting about a fourth of the oxygen your body needs. So it does not take very long to become unconscious. Since 1947 there has 105 similar cases to this boy's, and only 25 of those have lived. It took him about an hour to recover enough to get up and walk around again, that's when he was finally noticed. He said he wasn't trying to get a free trip to Hawaii, but was just trying to run away.

How bad would conditions back home be for you to try to pull of something as crazy as this? What do you think was going through this boy's mind when the plane actually started moving and there was nothing he could do?

  • Well done!

  • This kid is crazy! I would be really nervous as soon as the plane started to move.

  • I think conditions at home must be pretty bad to hide in a moving plane like that. I think this boy might have had some serious issues at home and possibly there could have been something wrong with him but I think he knew exactly what he was getting himself into.

    • Well if conditions were bad back home, then hopefully this incident will help them realize things need to change.

  • This is scary! If I were going to run away it wouldn't be on an airplane! I think he was probably full of adrenaline when he did this!

    • Well that adrenaline was taken away pretty fast when he was knocked unconscious pretty fast.

  • I think something was horbille and home but he still go free trip to hawaii and i think it is funny

    • Well that free trip was str

  • I do not know what was going through his mind. If I was going to run away this would not be the way. If I did try this though, I would be attached to my parents for a long time.

    • I agree, after something as traumatic as this I'd think they could learn to get along.
