When 17-year-old Austin Rollins from Maryland High School opened fire inside the High School he shot two fellow students. One of them was Jaelynn Willey, she got shot in the head and have been on life support. Her family decided Thursday that they would take her off life support. Melissa Willey told news reporters Thursday night that her daughter was brain dead and had “no life left in her”. Melissa died at 11:34 p.m. Thursday night at the University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office said that Rollins and Jaelynn had been in a relationship that recently ended. The police believe that Rollins shooting was not a random act of violence,
- Would you have done the same as Jaelynn’s family if you were in this situation? Why?
I would’ve done the same thing, they did what they thought would be best for her.
- Do you think Rollins specifically went after Jaelynn because of their recently ended relationship? Or do you think this was a random act of violence?
I think Rollins went specifically after her, I think there is a story behind why he shot her in the head, and the other guy in the thigh.

Great jon Ana!
I probably would have taken her off life support. It sounds horrible but if somebody is brain dead and are not expected to wake up ever, it is hard but their is no point in keeping the ventalator on and paying for that if you cannot communicate and they aren't "there" with you. I do think they Rollins was after her because it sounds like someone going to the extremes and it just supports the publics reasoning. It makes sense.
I would do the same as they did. It's false hope. I wouldn't want my daughter to suffer anymore aslo. I think Rollins went after her. It's just a weird coincidence if he did open the door and she happen to be in the wrogn place at the wrong time.
I think that he thought this through and knew where to go to find her, but I'm not sure, we don't know and will probably never find out.
I understand why they did it because it's so expensive and if she didn't come back within a couple of days she was probably just gone. I think he may have been hurt by them ending their relationship. Yes, I would too so I see where he was sad but to shoot someone I don't think that's right.
I agree that is not right, but maybe he has issues, and this was what he decided to do, what he did was not right at all.
yes, it would be a horrible decision to make but if someone's brain dead you would be keeping just a body living. you would take heath care providers from truly living people and rack up medical bills. it wouldn't be in the person's best intrest to keep them alive. it would be selfish to keep a body alive just for your own consolation.
I would have done the same thing because it takes lots of money to power the machine and she could possibly never wake up. I think he did the shooting as an act of rebellion on their break up.
if she is your daugther I don't think money is a problem, I would personally do anything to keep my daughter awake and not worry about money, but I get what you mean
I would have done the same thing, because if she is brain dead, you don't want to see your daughter like that.
I think he definetly targeted her because of it. If it was a random act of violence, then it wouldn't have been planned out and he wouldn't of brought a gun in the first place.
