Using marijuana only one or twice can change teenage brains. The study looked at almost 50 teenage brains (specifically 14 year olds) reported increase on MRI images in many areas of the brain in teenagers that only reported using marijuana one or twice. The areas of the brain that were increased were “involved in emotional-related processing, learning and forming memories” (Shamard Charles). There not sure what it means to have the increased brain matter but it contradicts normal adolescent development. There not sure yet why the brain is being enlarged but two possibilities are that it is disturbing the pruning process making the volume larger or it made neurons and the connection between them grow. Marijuana affects teenagers more than alcohol does. Teenagers that use frequently have been found out to have “slightly lower scores on tests of memory, learning new information, and higher-level problem solving and information processing” (Sharmard Charles).

Questions:
1- What kind of medical problems do you think could occur from having volume of the brain increased?
2- Do you think this new information on marijuana could stop some teenagers from using? Why or why not?

Well done Delaney, but be sure to include your voice within your summary.
Marijuana is a drug by Iowa's law. Now that may change soon but even if they did leagize Marijuna there is a reason why only adults can purchase marijuna. It is like a cigerate, addictive.
I agree with will it is a drug so i dont think it should be leagized in iowa or any state. The passige said it messes with your brain, so it not be bought by anyone. yes i think this could stop or help stop teens for using the drug, because it hurts your brain.
The brain I'm guessing is the most important organ in the human body, and if anything out of the ordinary is happening to it I'm guessing it could cause a lot of damage. And yes I do because if the studies are true and that it's effecting your memory and learning new information, I would think that would be enough to get people to quit.
Well, I think that, since the volume of the brain has increased, it will be easier to damage the brain. Since memory and learning new information is harder after using marijuana, then they would have to work harder in school. I don't think this information will stop most teenagers from using. The teens that use it currently most likely won't stop, and the teens that first use it probably won't think about the risks. However, it could stop some teens.
I agree that this could make it easier to damage the brain like getting a concusion. School could be harder for these students and future jobs might be hard to keep if they are really slow learners. I think this information will make some teens quit using but not all and this could help prevent some from using in the first place.
I think that tumors can occur in the brain from expanding brain matter that isn't being used. If scientists can find out what marijuana actually does to the brain over a short period of time, then it should encourage teenagers to stop using it, plus adding on all of the other side effects that weed has.
I agree that as of long term effects tumors could form, but I mainly think this will just make it easier to damage the brain like getting a concusion or something and make them slow learners. I think this should encourage some teens to quit using but maybe not all.
Though there are contant adds and things telling people not to use these things, the amount of people using them is increasing. For people in sports such as football, I feel that a greater volume of the brain could make it easier to get a head ijury like a concussion. I don't think the new information will stop teens from using because so many teens have already started and the numbers just keep going up. Once you start it's hard to stop.
I agree that a lot of teens aren't listening to people telling them to not use and to quit because of the consiquences, but I'm hoping this information will help encourage some to quit expecially if there in sports and could get a head injury easier.
