In recent news voters in the states of Washington and Colorado voted yes on the recreational use of marijuana. So far the set age limit on buying marijuana is 21 years old the state also placed a restrictment on how much you can buy and smoke at a time at the limit of 1 ounce. I think that this will stop some of the smaller crimes in the US, because whenever someone wants to get high on marijuana they can just go these states instead of buying it illegally. I could see good and bad things happening with the legalization of marijuana. The good is it could be good business and the bad being that it is a drug.
My brother lives in Colorado and I talked to him about this. He thinks it's a good idea. He feels like it will cut down on crime and create good business. I think that it could be good or bad. It could possibly lead to people over the age of 21 buying marijuana for minors in Colorado, which could be a bad thing.
As for anything there are positives and negatives for this. Making marijuana legal will allow the states to tax it to the highest degree like they do cigarettes and that alone will bring a lot of money into the economy. Also on the positive side, they will not have to waste as much tax-payer money on arresting, trying and incarcerating people for having weed and be able to focus their time and energy going after people who are committing much more severe offenses. Also this will decrease prison population drastically. But on the negative side, they have just legalized a gateway drug, that leads to may other problems that exist in society. It also poses many dangers to citizens of that state, I mean drinking and driving is a big enough issue, and now they will most likely have to deal with people driving while high. As a final thought I would like to add that marijuana is still against federal law, so the people can still be busted by the feds even though they can't be arrested by state police. So we will see how long the legalization last.
I think that it is good. Everyone makes to big of a deal about it, some people really need it to make themselfs feel better. I mean, the goverment is obvousily going to tax it, so they'll make money.
you do have a good point that it will probably get rid of some of this smaller, pity crime but i dont think it would be a good idea at all, i think the states will tax it very highly and people will find other ways to get it.
I am for legalization, just because I don't think it's right to have it illegal. I'm glad that they have the age limit on it, but I think that more research needs to be done into marijuana. I think if we get past the hatred of it, we can do more legitimate research without bias into it's actual effects and people can make more informed decisions. I like that it was legalized in two states but this also brings up a lot of problems in other states, making access to it easier.
Yeah i dong agree i dont thing that it should be legal for people it should be a crime.
I think that it needed to be done because the government need the money off of the tax that it will bring in.
I think the U.S. government could make a killing off of this as long as the sellers can keep the prices lower than what they sell it for on the streets.
