Man Killed Brother Over a Cheeseburger

On May 5th, Benjamin A. Middendorf had an argument with his older brother, Nicholas Middendorf. They returned from a night of drinking. 911 received a call from a man yelling "I just shot my brother on accident"  Then he said "We were in a fight and I grabbed a gun and I shot him. Oh God," Middendorf said. Then after those words, a women's voices was heard telling the operator, "I'm going to kill my son." Spokeswoman Denise Roberts of St. Cloud Police confirmed that the argument involved a cheeseburger. Middendorf will face first-degree murder charges. Its mother's day weekend and the mother has lost a son.

Questions:

Why do you think he had an argument with his brother over a cheeseburger?

Do you believe it was something else they had an argument about?

If you were the mother, how would you feel?

My opinion:

They were drunk and that is maybe why they argued over a cheeseburger. The police say that they were fighting over a cheeseburger and I believe that its possible to have another argument over something else. If I was the mother, I would have been devastated and I would be angry at myself for not raising my kids better.

  • Well done Jazmine!

  • It must have been one good cheeseburger for them to fight to over. I think that there was something else fueling the fire for them to get to the point of pulling out a gun.

  • I think that they had an irrational argument over the cheeseburger because they were both drunk. This is a really sad story and it sounds like the one brother tends to get angry when he is drunk and he was just pushed over the edge with the argument.

    • Yes, a lot of people do crazy things while intoxicated and arguing about a cheeseburger is a crazy thing.

  • If I were the Mother, I would be so sad, horrified, and terrified to find out what had happened. I highly doubt she raised them to act this way. In just moments, she didn't just lose one son, but both of them.

    • Yes, I feel terrible for the mother. Yes, she did lose both, but she lost one forever.

  • I don't think it was about the cheeseburger, it had to be over something much more serious that they haven't told the police. I can't imagine killing my sister all because of food!

  • I think this was because they were drunk and acting stupid because of the alcohol. It could have also been an existing mental problem considering the situation when this far, sadly.

  • Because they were drunk and being stupid, this shows why heavy drinking is not a good idea, especially around guns. I would be so mad and confused in I was the mother because one of my sons just accidentally shot and killed the other.

    • Yes! Drinking is a very bad idea. The mother must be filled with emotions because she has lost a son on mother's day weekend.
