Outside of a 7-Eleven store in New York City, a mother of six children was killed by a man driving a vehicle into she and her family. After an intense argument between the couple Melissa and Sean Deloatch, Jason Mendez plows into the family of eight. Police say after running over the family the vehicle continued into the building, then Jason backed up and drove forward a second time hitting the Deloatch family. Each family member was wounded and transported to a hospital immediately. The 32 year old mother died from her severe injuries and father and children were transferred to another hospital where they were treated for serious, but not life threatening injuries. As officers responded to the scene, Mendez flashed a knife at the officers as he exited his vehicle. After refusing to put the knife down, officers took him down with a taser and he was taken into custody. Mendez was arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder. On Wednesday he was taken to the Rockland County Correctional Center.
1. Why do you think a man like this would harm an innocent family?
I would think this man would have some type of mental problems or disabilities. Either he was aiming to harm that exact family or he was angry and wanted to damage anyone or anything in his way. A normal person would not purposely run over a family of eight especially with six little children.
2. What would you do if you lived in a town where an act like this happened?
If I was living in a town and heard about a man running over a couple and children of six two times in a row, I would be worried about the town being safe enough to stay or not. If I had kids I would not let them go out without being supervised either.

I think everybody has the capacity to hurt anyone else, some people just don't have any impulse control and are in need of mental help. Also, it is unclear whether or not there was a motive behind it. If it was gang related it's not surprising, even if the man was in a confrontation with the victims before.
Circumstantially, there's nothing I could do to move if I was living in a place like that. Common sense does say move but if you're trapped in that town I suppose travel in groups.
This seems so random so he most likely did it out of pure rage or he was intoxicated. A person who is not intoxicated, nor in rage, and doesn't have disabilities would most likely dare to commit a crime like this. I would suggest to many not to leave their kid's unsupervised, and would be more weary of my surroundings.
1. I agree that the man could have had a mental problem and needed to take some anger out. He also could have been under the influence of alcohal or drugs. Hopefully that is the case and he didn't just feel like killing people.
2. I would be scared to be alone if this happened in our town. I also agree that if I had kids, I would not let them go anywhere without adult supervision.
I think the man was on something or he was metally ill. I would be worried and I would watch every car passing by and leaving a parking lot.
I think maby he was super entauxacated and wasent paying attention and lost control or like they said he had some sort of mental illness and dident know right from wrong an just want to cause damage by killing people
If this happen i would very carefull when im out alone and stay in after dark and if i have kids or a wife to make sure there very carefull at night and outside with o vehical to protect them
I think that if a man would serverly harm an innocent family, he would defintiely have some sort of mental problems or maybe he was sufferng from some degree of insanity. There is the possibility that the family deserved it, but I very, very much doubt that.
I think that there must have been some sort of connection between the family and Jason. I don't know why he did it, but if he is mentally stable, then I think it is fair for him to get a punishment. If this would happen near me, I wouldn't really stress about it because not everyone has the same problem.

I agree because I personally thing he was mentally disabled. However we dont know for sure because the article never said why this man did what he did. It is uncommon but he could have had something against this family of eight too.
