A man was filmed kicking a 78-year-old woman repeatedly on a subway on New York. Bystanders recording video of the attack, as the man hit the woman, but they did not intervene to stop him. It's unclear what happened before the attack or whether the two know each other. Police identified the suspect as Marc Gomez, 36, of Yonkers. He was arrested Saturday in Manhattan and charged with multiple counts of assault and harassment, the NYPD said in a statement. After the incident, the woman rode the train one more northbound stop and was met by EMS when she exited the train, the NYPD said in a statement. It said she suffered from bleeding and swelling with cuts to the face. She was treated and released from the hospital and is getting the care she needs.

What would you have done if you were a bystander?
I would have told Gomez to stop, and I would have stuck up for the elderly woman. I would not have just sat there and done nothing.
How long do you think Gomez should be in jail?
I think that he should be in jail for a decent amount of time, due to the severeness of the harm he did to the elderly lady.

I would have intervined in the situation and stopped Gomez from attacking an innocent old lady. Also, the people there were probably afraid of Gomez which is why the didn't do anything. I think he should be jailed for multiple years because he attacked an innocent old lady and he has had multiple assault and harrassment charges.
I would tell the guy who did it to stop and call the police right away. Gomez should be in jail for 8 to 10 years to think about what he did. Harming an elderly lady or anyone for that matter is uncalled for. That elderly lady could have died if she was harmed bad enough.
I would have immediately tried to stop him from hurting her any further. I would have also tried to get other people to help me because I most likely couldn't have handled it on my own. Gomez should be in jail for a long enough time that will hopefully prevent him from doing it to other people in the future. If he had mental health issues, he could go somewhere to get help as well.
I think that I also would have tried to stop him right away, and try not to think about my own safety. I agree that the length of time that he spends his jail will hopefully help him gain the mental health that he was lacking before.
I would have jumped in right away and stopped the man who was being this disrespectful. I definetly would not have just held my phone up and recorded it. I think he should be in jail for a while and maybe even get into a mental health program, I can't think of anyone who would do this without being messed up in the head.
If I were a bystander witnessing this, I would not have flimed it. I would have stepped in and tried to get the man off of her. Recording this is wrong, they should have tried to help the elderly woman. Gomez should be in jail for a good amount of time considering he assaulted and harrassed a woman.
I agree, filming it kinda makes it seem like the bystanders did not really care what was happening because no one tried to stop him. I agree that jail time could do him well, and hopefully change the person he is now to be a man who respects his elders.
If I was a bystander and came across this I would definetly step in and get the man to stop beating up an elderly women. I would not stand by recording and doing nothing to help. He should definetly be locked up for awhile by harming and innocent old woman.
I would have helped the elderly woman out and stop Gomez, I would also try to gather other people to handle Gomez and the elderly woman. I think that Gomez should go to jail for a year or two because of how the elderly woman turned out in the end.
