Male Abuse/Rape

On average, nearly 20 people per minute are abused by a significant other in the United States. This all adds up to 10 million men and women per year. 1 in every 9 men experiences abuse by their intimate partner and for women, it’s as high as 1 in every 4. Now I just want to talk about men. Males are infamously known for hiding their feelings and are much more likely to hide the fact that they have been abused, which is why there are fewer statistics for men than there are for women.

Although it is rarely talked about and there is less evidence for male abuse, it is still there and it most certainly needs to be talked about. 1 in every 4 men are physically abused by their partners, and 1 in every 25 men have been injured by a significant other. Men tend to withhold information about abuse or rape, so statistics are hard to come by. There is no data to be found on men being raped, and due to this when men have confessed the fact is merely pushed away or shrugged off because “a woman could never do that to a man.”

Well unfortunately women are capable of rape and abuse. There was a significant case here recently about Johnny Depp and his now ex-wife Amber Heard. Heard had accused her husband of domestic violence and abuse but Depp came out in the case and said that he was the one actually being abused. Depp was being accused by the media and the courts that he was “a wife-beater”. The allegations against Johnny Depp turned out to be untrue. A few months later Depp came out and told the story of Heard being the abuser and had even stated that she had severed some of his fingers by throwing a vodka bottle at him. Unfortunately, even after having multiple pieces of evidence against Amber Heard, Depp lost the case. This is just one case where a male victim has been put on trial but lost the battle. I believe that men should get more recognition and justice for what they have been through.

  • Great topic choice at is one that people don't think about as you mentioned in class. The issue is that you didn't reply to any comments which is worth 30 points.

  • Yes, I believe that men who have been abused in any way should come forward and tell authorities. I believe that most men who have been assaulted or rapped will not come forward because that would make them feel less of a man and be seen as weak to other men. I think a big reason male and females who have been raped won't come out about it is because they are scared of their abuser. In conclusion abuse and rape can go both ways.

  • I think that we should talk more about male abuse and that we should do more to prevent it and to help the victims. Even if I knew about this problem I personally didn't think that so many men had to go through this. It's really hard for men to say that they have been raped because of toxic masculinity and because society forces men to show strenght all the time.

  • In my opinion, male abuse/rape happens more than people like to talk about. I think that the numbers of these men being abused/raped are higher than they should be. I think we need to talk more about male abuse/rape. I think we need to do more in order to help people who are in need. I also think that we should make it easier for everyone to get help when they need it.

  • I believe that men should come forward more about being raped and abused. Yes, I agree with you men hold their feelings a lot because it will pursue them as being weak. They are scared of being pursued as weak. Rape and abuse can go to both genders. Women can rape. Men can rape. There is just more evidence on men that rape because women come forward more than men.

  • There should be more active help for men who have been abused. A lot of people just ignore that men are also getting abused. It is the same with children. When men get accused of rape it is guilty until proven innocent. And even if they prove they did not it could affect their job, future relationships, and family. \ Women and men should be equal but there are still things that women still have more power in.

  • I think the stats would be a little higher if all men that have/are being abused right now but i still think it'd be higher for women if we all came out and told the public about it. i feel in most situations women are more scared to say it. I think men should come out and say if they are and seek help even if thier abuser is threatening them. you can still get away and find help whether its from a family member or from the police.
