Machete Attack on Appalachian Trail

James Jordan was arrested for the attack on one male and one female hiking on a trail in Virginia. One was killed and the other was seriously injured. The police won't tell news reporters which one of the two people had died but they said the other is recovering. When brought into the hospital the male and the female had not been identified and still aren't. The couple was found by the police from the man's phone that he called help on. The police traced the call back to the phone and got the couple's location. The authorities had Jordan surrounded and Jordan surrendered willingly to them. Jordan is now under arrest by the Wythe County Police. He has been charged with one account of assault/ intent of murder for injuring one of the hikers and also charged with an account of murder for the other one that has died. While in custody Jordan's first expected court hiring is tomorrow.

How long do you think James Jordan should be in jail?

I believe he should be in jail for life. He killed somebody and attempted to kill another. I was researching it and apparently, it is 30-40 to even life. If anyone takes a life I think they should be in jail for life.

What do you think made James attack the Hikers?

What makes a killer want to kill? I don't think anyone knows. Maybe he was mentally ill, they looked at him wrong, or he was so jealous of something that he lashed out. There are a number of things that people would kill for. But it doesn't give anyone the right to kill another human being.

  • Great job Olivia!

  • I think Jordan should also be in jail for life with his crimes. He took someones life, and he injured another person. I agree, if someones takes a life, they should have to pay the price. I think maybe he was mentally ill because a normal person would not want to slash people.

  • I think he should be in jail for life if he has killed one person and was trying to kill another. Honestly, it could have been anything. However, I think the most common reason is because the person has mental types of problems.

  • I think that he souldn't have a sentence of less then 25 years because he did try to kill someone but I think his maximum should be at least 70 years, just so he doesn't try to do this to anyone else. He probaly could have been upset about something or he could have had a disease that triggered him to do something like this.

  • I think he should be put in jail for the rest of his life because he murdered somebody and tried to kill another. He might have had something against them or he might have some mental problems and freaked out for some reason. But why would someone want to kill another person anyway.

  • I think James Jordan should definitely go to jail because he killed somebody and almost killed someone else. If he doesn't go to jail then something is seriously messed up. I'm  not sure why he killed them. Maybe he had a weird fascination with machetes or he was just crazy. I doubt he was provoked.

  • I think that he was just mentally ill, and was not right in his head. He may have had another motive that is unknown, but nothing gives someone the right to kill another person.

  • I think that his jail time should be very severe, and more than likely life in prison. Anyone who takes other peoples life should not be able to go free after just a few years.

  • I think that he should be in jail for life, if not sentenced to death. He assulted the people with a machete and then killed the other. You have to be pretty messed up to want to do something like that. I think that he had to be kinda messed up in the head, or have known them and wanted revenge on them.

  • I'd imagine James Jordan will be given a life sentence in prison, maybe he'd be given parole on good behavior (more than likely not). I think James attacked the hikers because of a mental illness. This seemed like a very sudden decision on James's part, and considering he probably didn't know the hikers, I'd say a mental illness is the leading reason.
